Rules for Common Human Behavior

What does it mean to be human? We all have human behavior. After all, we are all only human? Not so? But what does that mean?

We have a human body. We learn human lessons. We behave like humans.
(*Well, at least most of us do!)

As part of society, we all must join in with each other to carry on our legacies. We pass a genetic code from generation to generation. We pass our genes and our grandchildren and their grandchildren become part of us. Of course there are good genes and bad genes. Unfortunately, we have to accept the good with the bad.

If we strive to be perfect, do we lose ourselves and become someone who is driving in the right direction yet taking the wrong path? How we choose to live our lives is completely up to us. Or is it?

These are difficult questions to answer. Some of choose to live our lives for other people. Some of us choose to live our life free of bonds. Some of us are so self indulgent that we can’t see the forest for the trees. We have only one time. This time. Our time. We have to live our lives, even with bad human behavior, as we see fit or as we have been taught. Morals and ethics are part of the reason that we have a hard time making choices. But ultimately we do choose!

Since we are all in the school of hard knocks at one time or another, a great way to improve human behavior is to understand the rules of just 'being human'.

Rules for Being Human

1) You will receive a body. - You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period of this time around.

2) You will learn lessons. - You are enrolled in a full time informal school called Life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3) There are no mistakes, only lessons. - Growth is a process of trial and error: Experimentation. The ‘failed’ experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately works.

3) A lesson is repeated until learned. - A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

5) Learning lessons does not end. - There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6) ‘There’ is no better than ‘here’. - When your ‘there’ has become a ‘here’, you will simply obtain another ‘there’ that will again look better than ‘here’.

7) Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.

8) What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9) Your answers lie inside you. The answers to Life’s questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

10) You will forget all this.

11) You can remember it whenever you want.

When you think about your own human behavior, be sure that you check yourself often. Make sure you enhance the lives of the people you come in contact with throughout your life. If you want to stay out of the school of hard knocks, this is just good advice! You will find that being considerate is one of the most human acts we can ever perform!
