How to Untangle Matted Hair
I was going through a depression and didn't comb my hair. I wore wigs and scarfs for 4 months. Now I am out of my funk but my hair is tangled and matted. What do I do? I am ashamed to go to the beauty shop.

Please don't feel bad. Depression manifests itself in many different ways for a lot of people. I am just glad that you're feeling better now!
Many years ago, I took care of an elderly woman's hair after work. She had the exact same problem initially. This is going to take some work on your part but it is doable.
You'll need to buy a detangler and/or
slip conditioner. This will make getting tangles out a lot easier. (You can substitute a good smoothing conditioner like
Biosilk Silk Therapy.)
You'll also need a wide toothed comb.
Steps to Remove Matted Hair Wet your hair and apply your conditioner to the matted area. Rinse your hair but don't rinse it out completely. Fully saturate the affected area with your
hair detangler.
Starting at the bottom of the matt,
gently and
slowly work your comb through the tangles. Apply more detangler as needed as you work your way up the hair shaft.
This will be time consuming so plan on it. If you don't take your time, you will rip out your hair and be left with hair breakage. (It would be great if you had a friend that would be willing to help you with this!)
You should be able to successfully get the matted hair untangled if you have patience and follow these steps. You
may lose some hair but it shouldn't be a lot. Hope this helps!
