How to lift brown hair to platinum blonde?

by Tamara

Hi, I would like to be platinum blonde from light brown/brown hair but I know its hard to achieve. And I am not sure that I would like the platinum blonde colour anyway. I dyed my hair yesterday with Garnier Nutrisse creme vanilla blonde colour. Can I achieve the platinum blonde colour with one of these home colouring products or should I even try it? Are there any products that you'd recommend to reach this colour? I know about bleaching but don't want to use it because I have thin and weak hair. I've also heard its dangerous to do at home but expensive to go to a salon.

Thank you!

Why would you want platinum blonde hair if you're not even sure if you're going to like it in the first place?

The main problem with double processes (or triple or quadruple) is that everytime you color over your hair, you may be compromising the structure of your hair, which makes it more susceptible to hair breakage. This doesn't bode well for thin, weak hair.

There is no telling how long it would take to lift your hair to platinum blonde or if it's even possible using this product.

Since you aren't sure if you want to commit to this color, why not just add some platinum highlights to your hair. You will need a very light blonde color and possibly a 40 volume peroxide to get blonde results but even then, there are no guarantees. Bleach is the only way to get your hair to lift quickly but should be done by a professional if you haven't used it in the past. Here are the instructions for pulling hair through a cap to get highlights:

(Although I used bleach, you can always substitute hair color and use the same techniques.)

Adding a few highlights is a much more reasonable approach since you aren't totally sure of whether you'll like it or not.

You can also preview how platinum blonde hair would look on you by uploading your photo and using the tools at TheHairStyler.com. It's cheap to join and you will at least know if you like the color before you try to make such a dramatic color change it.
