How to Create Curls in Stubborn Curly Hair

My hair is generally curly/wavy, and I love it. The only problem is the pieces of hair at the front, and at the top of some parts of my hair are straight, and it not only looks odd, but covers up all the beautiful curls and waves underneath. I've tried so many products, and they generally only become a little wavy after I deep condition. Do you have any tips on how I can get these stubborn pieces to curl (without using a curling iron)

*************

Absolutely! My hair is the same way! It's curly underneath and straight on top.

Have you tried co washing and hair plopping? Both techniques are a great way to enhance curls naturally.

Also, you can try spritzing your hair with salt water. For some reason, the salt draws out the curls. You can make your own or buy salt spritz's online. Use sea salt for the best effect.

Here are some texturizing products with ocean salt spray to check out.

I also notice that when I get out of a pool, that my hair is very curly after it dries. If the chlorine won't hurt your hair, (your hair is not damaged and you don't color your hair with bright colors), you could buy a small amount of chlorine and mix it with water, then spritz on your hair. You only need a small amount of chlorine though.

In both situations, if you mix your own, use one tablespoon or slightly more (salt or chlorine) with one gallon of water and try it. If you don't get good results, try using higher amounts until you get the right mixture. Neither of these (salt or chlorine) will hurt your hair but do condition when you wash your hair to replace lost moisture and nutrients.

Of course, to create curly hair in straight hair, you have to have some type of curl pattern in your hair to begin with. Its impossible to curl bone straight hair without the assistance of curling irons or other appliances.

One other easy method is to use pin curls. Wind one small section of straight hair around your finger, then hold the circle of hair and secure on your scalp with a bobby pin. Use gel or mousse on the straight sections before you curl it. You will need to let styling products dry thoroughly, so I suggest doing this overnight. After your hair is completely dry, take out the bobby pin(s) and your hair will be curly as ever!
