Easy Hemorrhoids Relief

Getting hemorrhoids relief is not as hard as you might think. By definition, hemorrhoids are an abnormally enlarged vein.

Irritations around the enlarged veins can cause itching, burning, and swelling. How do you get them? And better yet, how do you get rid of them?

Hemorrhoids are also called piles, are normally present veins in the anus and rectum that become swollen and inflamed. Over 3/4 of people in the US alone have hemorrhoids at some time in their life. The peak age is between 45 to 65 years, although pregnancy is when most women experience them.

These little or sometimes big 'appendages' can sure be aggravating! They itch and burn and can make it very uncomfortable to just sit! Sure there are a lot of really messy ointments and creams on the market, but most of them don't work very well. How can you keep an ointment 'in place' on this area?

The answer is that you can't! Hemorrhoids can give you a lot of grief! They can be very uncomfortable and bleed sometimes. They can also be located internally or externally.

The Cause of Hemorrhoids

Straining to have a bowel movement is the most common cause of hemorrhoids. This may happen if you're constipated for several days. It may also happen if you sit on the toilet too long.

Hemorrhoids are caused by an increase in pressure of the veins around your anus or rectum. There are many things that can cause them such as prolonged diarrhea.

Types of Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins. The type you have depends on where it occurs. There are typically three different kinds.

  • Internal hemorrhoids involve the veins inside the rectum. They usually don't hurt and may bleed painlessly.

  • Prolapsed hemorrhoids may stretch down and bulge outside the anus. They may go back inside your rectum on its own, or you can push it back inside.

  • External hemorrhoids involve the veins outside the anus and can be itchy or painful and may sometimes bleed.

    Hemorrhoid Symptoms

Symptoms may include a sensation of fullness, usually described as feeling the urge to have a bowel movement even when there is no stool. Straining to have a bowel movement may worsen the discomfort.

This can be accompanied by acute pain, itching, and irritation around the anus. This often occurs when the hemorrhoid has prolapsed and can be felt on the outside of the anus or it can be caused when a blood clot develops or the hemorrhoid becomes twisted. There may also be a painful lump or swelling around the anus.

    Easy Hemorrhoids Relief

  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially pure water. Eight glasses of water a day is ideal.

  • Exercise regularly.

  • Avoid laxatives, except for bulk-forming laxatives such as Fiberall, Metamucil, etc. Other types of laxatives can lead to diarrhea, which can make hemorrhoids worse.

  • When you feel the need to have a bowel movement, don't postpone it. Go, go, go!

  • Fiber - Consuming more fiber has a beneficial effect in relieving hemorrhoid symptoms and bleeding. Fiber softens stool by increasing bulk, which helps to reduce straining. Seven randomized trials with a total of 378 participants have found fiber improved symptoms.

Eat foods that are high in fiber, such as whole grains and vegetables. Psyllium, a powdered fiber supplement, is another option, one that's inexpensive and readily available. A typical amount of psyllium is one teaspoon of the husks in water followed by another glass of water.

Other options are ground flaxseed or flaxseed oil. Whatever the source of fiber, it's important to drink sufficient water or constipation may worsen.

  • Bioflavonoids are a type of plant compound that work by stabilizing and strengthening blood vessel walls and by decreasing inflammation. They help reduce anal discomfort, pain, and anal discharge during an acute hemorrhoid attack. Side effects of bioflavonoids appear to be mild and rare, making them a promising treatment for hemorrhoids in pregnancy.

  • Witch Hazel is not be taken internally but is instead applied topically to the anal area in the form of witch hazel distilled liquid, ointments, or medicated pads.

Witch hazel decreases bleeding because it's an astringent. It may also give hemorrhoids relief of pain, itching, and swelling.

  • Butcher's Broom is a traditional use for hemorrhoids relief and varicose veins. It is often used when there is underlying poor circulation in the veins.

Butcher's broom extract contains anti-inflammatory and vein-constricting properties that are believed to improve the tone and integrity of veins and shrink the swollen tissue.

Butcher's broom comes as a capsule or tea. The tea can be made by steeping one teaspoon of the herb in a cup of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Butchers broom has also been shown to be effective when applied topically as an ointment or compress.

Butcher's broom should not be consumed internally by people with high blood pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), by pregnant or nursing women, or by people taking alpha blocker or MAO inhibitor drugs unless otherwise recommended by their doctor.

  • Purchasing a doughnut hole to sit on can also bring some relief. This keeps you from sitting directly on the hemorrhoid, which can help relieve the itching and burning.
