and Your Health



Did you know that having sex is good for you both mentally and physically?

It’s one of the few pleasurable things in life that has both short and long term measurable advantages.

Most people don’t think about the health benefits of sex at all, but there are many!

As it turns out, when you’re in the mood for a little instant gratification, sex is more than just a good idea! After all, if coitus never happened, you wouldn’t be reading this! Oy!

Most people don't think about how sex improves their health, but maybe its a great excuse for having it more frequently? Hey, its worth a shot, right? Until you get your wish, here are a few of reasons why having sex is good for you!

Health Benefits of Having Sex



  • Having regular sex releases chemicals that boost oestrogen levels, which improves the tone and texture of your hair and skin.

  • Orgasms are a great release for pent up emotions. If you’ve been holding onto certain unpleasantries, an orgasm can be your golden ticket for relief!

  • Having sex is good because it makes you feel happy and warm! It can also instantly improve a bad mood!

  • Having sex is good for creating intimacy. It helps you bond with your sexual partner in a way that most other people can't. (hopefully)

  • Kegel exercises for women has long been known to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, which in turn minimizes the risk of incontinence later in life.

    For women, doing a few Kegel's during sex has even more benefits. When pelvic floor muscles are tightened, it improves the entire sexual experience.

    How to do Kegel exercises? To tighten the muscles of your pelvic floor, act like you’re trying to stop the flow of urine. Hold muscles tight to the count to three, then release. Repeat 10 times. Repeat the exercise a few times daily if possible.

  • Having sex can create a more positive self esteem. Orgasm during sex can empower you to take on the world! When you boost your self-confidence, you can definitely accomplish more!

  • Having sex is good for reducing stress levels, according to a study done in Scotland and reported in the Biological Psychology Journal. Researchers studied 24 women and 22 men who were asked to keep daily records of their sexual activity. They also noted blood pressure responses of the subjects to various types of stressful stimuli, (such as public speaking and doing verbal arithmetic). The subjects who had sexual intercourse regularly had better responses to stress than the subjects who engaged in other types of sex or abstained from sex entirely.

    Another study (published in the same journal) found that frequent intercourse was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure specifically, in cohabiting participants. Research has also found a link between partner hugs and lowered blood pressure, especially in women.

  • Since having sex reduces stress, it also promotes better sleep! As the hormone oxytocin floods your body, you are better able to relax, which in turn helps you sleep.

    And getting enough sleep has been linked with a host of other good things, such as anti aging benefits, maintaining a healthy weight, and reducing blood pressure.

  • Good sexual health contributes to better physical health overall. Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of antibody immunoglobulin A (IgA), which boosts immunity and protects you from getting colds and other types of infection.

  • Thirty minutes of rigorous sex burns 85 calories or more, which may not sound like much, but it adds up if you ‘do it’ often enough. Forty two half-hour sessions burns 3,570 calories, which is more than enough to lose a pound.

    Not only does sex burn calories, having sex is good for toning and firming muscles if you put enough energy into it!

  • Having sex is good for your heart and lungs! Regular sex improves heart health by elevating heart rate and improves lung capacity by increasing respiration. During sex, your heart operates more efficiently and becomes stronger. Some older men may worry that sex could cause a stroke, but this assumption may not be correct. According to researchers from England, in a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, scientists found that regular sex was not associated with stroke in the 914 men they followed over 20 years.

    Researchers also found that having sex twice or more a week reduced the risk of fatal heart attack by half for the men, compared with those who had sex less than once a month.

  • As the feel good hormone oxytocin surges in your blood, endorphins also increase, which reduces pain. In many cases, headaches, arthritis pain, or PMS symptoms seem improve after sexual activity, which is due to higher endorphin and oxytocin levels.

  • Frequent ejaculations, especially in 20+ year old men, may reduce the risk of prostate cancer later in life. This is according to Australian researchers reported in the British Journal of Urology International. Researchers in the study found that 20 year old men who had five or more ejaculations weekly reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later in life by one third.

    Another study found that frequent ejaculations, (21 or more a month), was linked to lower prostate cancer risks in older men, compared to men who had only four to seven ejaculations monthly.

    Points of Arousal

    For men, a really sensual spot is around the hip bone where the abdomen meets the pelvic bone. Get close enough so that it arouses some excitement, but don’t overdo it.

    For women, shoulders, neck, places where you're connecting in a different way where it's not just about sex, but it could easily lead there.

    Kissing is also underrated.

    When couples initially get together, there’s lots of smooching going on. We almost inhale each other. Then as the relationship evolves, it tapers off. The best way to reconnect with a loved one is to spend some time kissing again. It will do wonders for your sex life!

    Talking sexy is another way to add to the libido. It doesn't have to be dirty in order to be sexy. The best way to ‘get the point across’, is to tell your loved one the things you love about them the most. Having sex is good for the ego and gets instantaneous feedback most of the time.

    Oysters and chocolate aren't the only food of love. Shellfish, such as mussels, can also increase arousal.

    Mussels, in particular, have an amino acid in them that can raise sexual hormone levels in both men and women. Mussels are also an excellent source of omega 3. Serve with a nice exotic cheese and feed each other bite fulls of the bread by soft candlelight.

    Watermelon, if the proper amount is eaten, can also have a Viagra-like effect for men.
