Thank you so much! I really appreciate your nice post here! I just cut my hair (again) using this technique and taking it one step further. You ought to check it out. I have already posted it on my hair tube page on this site. (And of course, its on youtube.) I was a bit scared to try it, but several ladies asked me what would happen if they did their hair this way. Since I didn't know for sure, I had to try it. I created even more layers in my wavy hair and love it so far! The only people that bash me on youtube, (for the most part) are hairdressers. They don't want me to teach you how to cut your own hair, which is ridiculous. All women cut their own hair. I found this out fast when I worked in a busy salon in Durham NC. No matter how much I begged my patrons not to cut their bangs/hair, they did anyway. I finally started teaching them a few basic cuts they could do on their own (at home) in between appointments and made both of us happy. I had less messes to clean up, and they were spared the embarrassment of walking around with funky looking hair.
I'm so happy this worked out for you! Great job! XO Carolyn

Update to this post by: Lisa
I created this post in January of 2009. Soon afterwards, my husband trimmed the bottom of my hair to even it up to the higher layer. By April, my hair had grown quite a bit, and I was ready to try your Youtube directions for creating long layers towards the bottom. I am DELIGHTED to report...I gave myself the BEST HAIRCUT I have had in years!!!! My hair is long, just the way my husband, son and I like it, with these perfect layers that are at the very ends of my hair. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to post your video on Youtube. I found it to be extremely helpful. When I was ready to trim the ends, I first straightened my hair with a flat iron (my hair is coarse and wavy), then pulled it up towards the back of my head into a tight ponytail. I flipped the ponytail over my face (my hair is pretty long), then combed it gently to fan directly in front of my nose. I snipped straight across, and walla...PERFECTION!!! I absolutely LOVE it!!! Now it is May 21, 2009 and my hair still looks great. When I allow it to dry naturally, it is wavy with lots of body. When I straighten it with the flat iron, it looks very polished, with the cool layering at the bottom. I can finally say that as of this moment, I am happy with my hair! Yay!!! :) Thank you so very much again!!!
