Hair Roots Don't Match Hair Color
I recently had my hair dyed brunette (about a level 6N) from a medium natural blonde. I went in for my follow-up appointment to get my roots done, and they are still lighter than the rest of the hair. Was the dye not left on long enough?
I'm going to probably start dying my hair at home from now on, and have read using a semi-permanent is best because you won't have the lines in your hair from each time of redoing the roots, but I don't want it to wash out so quickly either.
If I start doing it at home, and use a permanent color, will my roots that have grown out ever be the same color as the rest, like it was the very first color? I don't want to have horizontal lines from each dye job as my hair grows out.

Actually, it sounds like the color was left on your roots too long, instead of not long enough. Hair colors process more quickly on root growth because of the heat from your scalp. If left on too long, colors will overprocess and come out lighter.
You need to fix your roots before you do anything else. Try using a 10 volume peroxide with your 6N hair color on your roots instead of a 20 volume, which is what the salon must have used. Ten volume peroxides are used for deposit only and will not lift your hair color.
