Hair Perm for Spiral Curls

I'm a teenager and I really love it when I get my hair curled on special occasions. Unfortunately, my spiral curls only last about 30 minutes before they fall back down. I tried using extreme level hairspray, but it just turns my hair into a rats nest. (or so my mom calls it) Also, I heard that using a curling iron often can damage your hair. I'm thinking of making the spiral curls more permanent. What should I do?

A spiral perm would do the trick but they can be costly. Most salons charge a lot of money for this type of perm, although sometimes it also depends on your hair length too. The longer your hair, the more they can charge for the service.
Once your hair starts growing out however, you will have roots that are the same hair pattern as your natural hair. Also, be sure you trust the stylist and/or the salon you (and your mom) choose to use.
Have you tried using a
hair gel,
styling gel, or a
curl defining mousse in your hair before you curl your hair? To do this, simply add the product you choose to damp hair (ends especially), comb through and blow dry, then curl your hair. Your curl should last all day, unless you're doing something else to pull out the curl. Never brush curls afterward. Use your fingertips to gently separate curls, use a pick, or keep them as is.
After you get through, spray your hair with a
flexible hairspray for best results!
You are also right about using a curling iron too often. If they're used too often or if the heat's too high, hot irons can
damage hair beyond repair. You might try using a spiral
curling iron too.
