Hair Perm Didn't Take because of Medication

I had my hair permed recently and it did not take. The tech blamed it on the injection I was supposed to get in my back the following week. She had said she would re do it if it did not take due to that. Well I did not have the injection and when I went to have it re done she said the injection really messed with it. It was curly here straight there etc. The first perm she used pink rods as I always have used with good results. The second time I told her before she began that I did not have the injection due to my blood pressure being too high and she asked what they did for it and I told her they put me on a medicine for 3 days and that was it. Well she continued with the perm but this time with alternating colored rods. Grey, white and pink. She also used a different product. She asked what product i used on my hair after I washed it and I told her I have used a spray gel such as Garnier and or Aussie Mega. She said that was good then told me not to pick it until it was completely dry naturally which is my forte anyway, I never use a dryer I don't like to. I followed every instruction to the letter. I am also almost 43 years old and know my hair pretty well, ha! I guess not anymore! She said that the medicine was the culprit this time if it didn't take. It didn't take, now my hair is a worse mess than before. Is the medicine to blame? She said it stays in the hair for months. I am frustrated wanting to know what to do besides cut it all off and start over. I don't really want to do that.

Well sweetheart, its really hard to say cause you didn't say what type of injections you were getting, nor give the name of the medicine the doctor put you on for those three days.
If the perm worked in some areas of your hair, then its safe to assume that it should have worked in the other areas of your hair. We can assume that the solution was 'good' because your hair took in some areas and the solution was the same throughout your hair. The only reason that it wouldn't take in certain areas is that something must-have been preventing it from taking.
One other possible explanation is a problem with your hair's porosity. If your hair is porous in some areas but not in others, then this would explain why the perm results varied but it more likely has to do with the medication, since you said that perms have worked well for you in the past.
In this instance, I would listen to your hairdresser. She seems to know her stuff. Yes, she used a new product and alternated the rod sizes but I've done that before many times, with great success. I do wonder why she chose to use 3 perm rod sizes this time, because you've gotten good results in the past from just using the pink rods.
Your hair will begin to relax a bit if you just give it some time. Use some heavy conditioners on your hair to help pull out some of the curly sections. Never rinse out your conditioners entirely. Leave a small amount of them on your hair when you rinse.
You could try a relaxer on your hair but that's a chemical too and you've had two perms recently. If you decide to do this, give it some time and condition like crazy.
Its a shame that you have to take medicine's that interfere with your hair's integrity. You might also look for different ways to reduce your blood pressure naturally. If you discover how to do this, you might be able to get off of your medication!
Losing a few pounds might help, just as petting an animal, which is a great way to lower blood pressure and there are a lot of homeless kitties and doggies now because of the
bad economy. You might do well to think about adopting a pet!
