Hair Loss and Hair Color

by KELLY WALSH
(ENGLAND)

I DYE MY HAIR EVERY 2 WEEKS USING SALON STRENGTH HAIR DYE AND 10% PEROXIDE. MY HAIR IS BREAKING OFF AND BECOMING VERY THIN AT THE SIDES OF MY HEAD. I AM VERY GREY, 36 YRS OLD AND AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH MY HAIR. WHAT ALTERNATIVE NATURAL DYE CAN I USE THAT WILL COVER GRAYS AND WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THE HAIRLOSS? I USE VOSENE SHAMPOO AND PANTENE CONDITIONER.

***********

If you are coloring your hair every two weeks, roots to ends, this is what's probably causing the hair loss and breakage. You should only color the new growth (roots) monthly and root to end, only every once in a while. (Although I never color root to end. Soap capping is the preferred method to refresh colors throughout your hair.)

If you're only coloring your new growth every two weeks, then maybe the frequency of your color is causing the problem. 10 volume peroxide is the lowest strength there is so its doubtful that it's doing harm to your hair. Hair color by itself, shouldn't cause hair loss either. You must think about an internal cause.

Since you are coloring your hair so often, (which you really shouldn't) try switching to a semi permanent hair color.

There is no one color that will cover gray completely. Gray hair is very stubborn and sometimes you've just got to 'go with the flow'.
