Hair is Too Light from the Sun

by Cristin

I have used SunIn from time to time. My roots are brown right now (I may use sun in to lighten that) and the under part of my hair is brown. But the main outside of my hair is blonde and in some places, its WAY to blonde, like white. I want it blonde but not so light that its platinum.

How can I fix this? Please? I lay out a lot and think that's why it's so much more light. I haven't used SunIn in months. I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!

You will need to do a reverse color and add some lowlights to your hair. Only apply color to the areas of your hair that are too light. The easiest way to do this is to pull your hair through a cap.

You can get the instructions for pulling your hair through a cap by viewing this video.

Bleaching Your Hair at Home - Highlighting 101

Instead of using bleach though, you'll need to use a brown color that matches the brown in your brown hair. Don't go too dark though. I would suggest using a brown color that's one shade lighter than your brown hair. Why? Because bleached hair (from the sun or from a chemical) is extremely porous and porous hair will absorb any color you apply to your hair and hold it. For the best results, do a deep conditioning treatment before you apply any color. You can pull as much or as little of your hair through the cap as you like.

You really need to think about what you're doing to your hair and your skin though. SunIn is horrible for your hair because it contains metals that react when chemicals are applied to it. (like color) The only way to get rid of the metals is to cut your hair off! You will need to do a strand test first, to make sure the color will take, before you try correcting the color.

Also your skin is paying the price. Your tan might look good now, but in twenty years, you might be sorry. I sure hope you are using a good sunscreen when you lay out, especially on your face. Everyone needs some amount of sunshine so your body can make vitamin D, but overdoing sun exposure will make your skin look like leather later on.
