Hair Color Gone Wrong
So, I went to the place I normally got my hair done. (Adora Salon - Oceanside, CA) They called me in advance to tell me that my stylist was sick and wouldn't be in and, asked me if I wanted to see someone else. I wasn't sure if I wanted to but, decided not to be picky and decided to go.
So, here I am at the "salon" being greeted by Barbie. I'm not kidding. She had bleach blonde hair, a pink dress, pink lipstick. She obviously loved pink!
I told her I wanted highlights. I think I wanted hi & lo lights but, at this point I can't remember exactly. As she was doing my hair, she ran out of color (which happens a lot with me because people don't realize how much hair I have). That wasn't the part that freaked me out. She proceeded in telling me while she was doing my hair that she used a different volume developer on one said than she did on the other because it took her so long to do my hair. As soon as she said that I immediately knew something didn't sound right with that but, for some reason, didn't say anything.
Needless to say she fried my hair pretty bad and, it took me a long time to repair and grow out.
That was the last time I let anyone touch my hair. I have a friend that is a beautician but, she is always way too busy to do hair so, I just do it myself. I have obtained enough knowledge about color from her to do my own and, have only had a "problem" with it once or twice. My natural color is a (level) 5-1/2 or 6 and, right now I am as close to a (level) 8 as I'm going to get without a serious bleaching.
If you ever go to Adora, ask for Elysa. She is the one that did my hair the right way with 4 different colors to make it look more natural. And, she VERY close to the scalp without zebra striping me(and without a board, just foil).
Glad to see there aren't many bad stories on here :)
Response from Carolyn:
Thanks for the submission! I'm really sorry you had to go through that! Its a shame we have to learn to be cautious about our precious locks from bad experiences. I think there are more stories to be told though! I heard a lot of them (and had to correct a lot of them) while working in a busy Salon! So ladies, get out your typing fingers and submit your stories!
I recently helped a really nice lady correct her hair color. The hairdresser she went to put a level 4 RV (red/violet) on her bleached blonde hair. If you know anything about coloring your hair, you know that blonde hair is the most porous hair and will grab any color that is applied to it, even semi permanent colors sometimes. When she left the salon, she had very dark glowing red hair. Since she had bought a hair color ebook from me, I worked with her to get her color right. It took both of us working together about four weeks to get the red and violet out of her hair. Why in the world someone would put that dark a color with violet in it, on blonde hair, is a secret to me. We finally have her hair back to blonde, but it took a lot time and effort for both of us. (When you buy an ebook, you get my personal attention, guaranteed!) You are right though! Everyone should know something about coloring their hair and have a bit of information about it when they go get 'in the chair'. Once a color process is applied to your hair, it's too late to back out of it. Thats why it's important to learn all you can before hand!
