I mean, how can you tell if you would look good with blonde hair?
Professional Hair Care Tips - That's a really great question lady! There are a few great ways to tell if you'd look good with blonde hair. Sometimes hair color and skin tone matter, sometimes not.
One way to figure this out is to go into a Beauty Supply store and see if they have any hair swatches. Some stores still have them, some not. You may want to call beforehand and find out. If they do, go to the store and use your compact mirror, (or borrow one from the store), and place the swatch close to your face and look in the mirror. You'll know pretty quickly if your hair color and skin tone are a good match for blonde hair.
You could also stand beside a girlfriend who has naturally blonde hair and look in the mirror too. Do you think you both have similar skin tones? Imagine yourself with her hair. If you can imagine it, you might be able to get away with it.
Another way to figure this out is to use tools that can change your hair color. These are great because you don't have the hassle of having to go anywhere and you don't have to color your hair. How? Go to virtual hair color page and use the free demo on the page.
Virtual hair color is a great way to experiment without physically changing anything. If you join the program (which is like free now!) you can upload your own pictures and change your hair to any color you want to try on yourself. They also have a few other demo's to try, including virtual hairstyles. There are over 8000 hairstyles you can try!
If you think you'd like to try blonde hair, try a few blonde highlights first. If you have very dark brown or black hair, you'll most likely need a hairdresser to apply them, cause bleach is the fastest and most dependable way to lighten your hair to blonde. Bleach is just too tricky to try by yourself usually, unless you know a lot about using it. You can get some tips about bleaching highlights from this video.
I have very dark brown hair but wore my hair blonde for many years, trying to hide my gray hair. I gave in and changed it to light brown a few years ago, but I loved it while it was blonde. I don't think it necessarily looked great though, with my olive skin and my big brown eyes as my skin tone and hair color were not a good match really. Sometimes it is a matter of personal choice, and women will do, what women will do!
Of course the other consideration is your skin tone and your eye color. Most of the time, women with fair skin and blue or green eyes look good with blonde hair. That is not always the guideline to use, but certainly most of the time it is. However, keep in mind that there are many Scandinavian ladies who are born with darker skin, but also have blonde hair and/or darker hair with lighter skin. (This is the exception but generally not the rule of thumb.) Your hair color and skin tone might not make any difference at all, but usually it does.
If you're thinking about changing your hair color, you might be interested in buying my inexpensive hair color manual. (Don't know your age, but if you're over 16 years old, you should be able to color your own hair... with your parents permission of course...) The ebook is on sale now. Get the low down on my 2009 Hair Color Guide page.
Changing your hair color is fun! If you don't use virtual tools, trial and error be your best measure. If you're worried about matching your hair color and skin tone, try a few blonde highlights first. See how you like it. It may very well be that you'll be satisfied with highlights and not have to change your entire hair color to be hair happy!
