Hair Color after Sun In

by Claire
(Liverpool)

Hi, I've been using sun in for 10 years. My hair has always been in good condition. I have been on many holiday's in those 10 yrs but after a holiday to Egypt, I have come back with damaged hair. I have used expensive deep conditioning treatments but nothing works. I now know I need to stop using sun in and find a colour that will match the sun in colour for my roots. I have been looking at maybe just highlights for the roots but just not sure what is best. Please help!

Adding hair color to hair that's been treated with Sun In is not advisable, since Sun In has metals in it. There is no way to guarantee good results. Its probably also what's responsible for your damaged hair! Over time, the metals in the product break down the hair shaft so there really is no way to repair your hair. Even hair reconstructors probably won't help.

You'd be better off just coloring your new growth only. Wait until you have at least 1 inch or more of your roots showing and then use a high lift color for your roots only.
