Q) - I used a product that gave me really greasy hair!

I am a white female early twenty's I have really thick hair. I tried a hair and scalp treatment called Softee Indian Hemp. The problem is that has made my hair look greasy almost like it would look if you put in a lot of hair gel. I have tried to wash it out and have been very unsuccessful. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to get it out of my hair. I thought that it might work like a cholesterol treatment but it didn't.

Professional Hair Care Tips - I had another lady write me that used this stuff. I am sorry this has happened to you. No one likes greasy hair! Indian Hemp conditioner's are especially great for African American hair, but are a bit too much for other hair types!

You can cut the grease in your hair by using a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos help take hair product build up and excessive oils off your hair. Tea tree oil shampoo or jojoba oil shampoos are good examples, as they will cut the grease right out of your hair. You can even shampoo with dawn liquid detergent (or other dish soaps) if you happen to have some in your kitchen. You should not use these shampoo's a lot though, as they are terribly drying on your hair over time. You definitely don't want to use harsh detergents on your hair every day.

Of course, after you clarify your hair, you will need to make sure and recondition the mid shaft and ends of your hair using a good moisturizing conditioner. If you have color treated hair, use a conditioner for color treated hair. If not, use it anyway. They work best on all hair types. Never condition your roots, unless you are doing a cholesterol treatment or some other type of deep conditioning treatment. (Besides Softee Indian Hemp!)

Cholesterol treatments make your hair limp and/or flat for a few days but they do not give you greasy hair! That's the good news. The other good news is that they are extremely cheap to buy. I love the way my hair looks and feels after I use them! You definitely wouldn't want to use them all the time though. You only need to use one once or twice every six months. They won't damage your hair at all, but there is such a thing as over conditioning!

I too have very thick hair for my age, (almost 50 now) and I attribute it to taking Biotin everyday, taking care of my hair so it's healthy, not using a lot of hair products or heat, and having good genetics!

You can always use plain Olive oil to moisturize your hair overnight (with a cap) if you want to save money. It works and costs about the same as Cholesterol. (Although I do like Cholesterol better for thick hair!) You can also use some good home hair remedy treatments!

To maintain the moisture in your hair during the winter months, run a cold air humidifier or vaporizer when you're home. Try not to use too much heat (hair dryers and irons) on your hair either. They are fine to use occasionally, but should not be used everyday. Heat really dries out your hair. Also, for thick, long hair, you should not wash your hair but once every couple of days. I think I wash my hair maybe twice a week only.

Leave in conditioner's are also another great option. The old standard is Infusium, but there are a lot of other good ones on the market! Good luck! Hope these tips help you get rid of your greasy hair!
