GHD Hair Straighteners

I want to buy a GHD hair straightener. I have thick curly hair and want poker straight hair. I have talked to people about them and have gotten mixed reactions. People say it's about the temperature that makes them good.

I own Nicky Clarke straighteners which are only a few degrees below GHD straighteners. I also heard salons will let you try them before you buy. Is this true? I'm confused. Should I buy them? Are they worth it? Help!

*****************

There is nothing that would make me happier than to tell you the best brand for all hair types, or more specifically your curly hair. Unfortunately, that's just not possible. There are just too many variables.

The fixed temperature on GHD straighteners keeps you from burning or singeing your hair, however I'm not sure how this control is supposed to be a benefit. They are said to retain heat better because of a built in microprocessor. Most also use infrared heat, which won't damage hair, which is also a major plus.

The problem is that everyone's hair needs are different. Curly hair is much harder to straighten than slightly wavy hair or straight hair but thick hair is also harder to control than thin hair.

Moisture and humidity also play a major role in the results you'll get from any straightening iron. For example, if you have curly hair and live in areas with high humidity in the summer, you'll have a harder time keeping your hair straight.

Another variable would be how you take care of your hair. Do you use lots of chemicals or have virgin hair? Do you regularly condition your hair or rarely condition your hair? All of these things make a huge difference.

If you've heard that some salon's are allowing you to use their GHD straighteners before you buy them, I'd get on the phone and call around. You'll find out quickly if this is true or not, although I highly doubt it is.

The best way to find out which is the best brand for you, is to ask friends with similar hair types, which brands work best for them.

If none of them have GHD straighteners, unfortunately trial and error will be the only possible way to find out. Buy name brands that have money back guarantee's on their products and companies that back what they sell, in case you're not satisfied.

Personally, I trust Misikko.com. Why? Because they back what they sell, are a great company, and offer a wide variety of products at various prices.

You may also want to consider purchasing a Hana flat iron or a Croc titanium flat iron instead. These are much less expensive compared to most GHD straighteners, but have great reviews.
