Foundation Makeup Buying Guide – More Tips for Choosing

Foundation makeup comes in a variety of different forms, each of which has a different effect on you. So which one to choose? That is a good question! Purchasing make up colors that look right on you, is the key to seemless coverage. They should blend into your skin tone, take away facial discolorations, and not look pasty or too dark!

They should also not cause you to break out. Any make up that causes zits is not your friend. When you finally find 'the one' that looks best on you, all your friends will notice you, not your makeup! Here’s the latest look at the newer and older foundation makeup with the latest tips on how to choose the right one for your natural skin tone.

Foundation Makeup Buying Guide

- Cream/Crème: Cream foundations provide the most coverage and can help you create a flawless look. These are especially formulated for people with normal to dry skin. Many TV personalities use cream foundations, which contain more oil than other foundations. This helps provide longer lasting coverage. People with normal to dry skin often choose cream foundation, as it contains moisture.

- Compact: Compact foundations combine liquid foundation and powder in one product. Ideal for many women on-the-go, compact foundations provide coverage similar to liquid foundation and feel powder-like when they dry. You can customize the amount of coverage you get from a compact foundation. Apply with a dry sponge for lighter, sheerer coverage. For a heavier matte coverage, apply it with a wet sponge.

- Liquid: Liquid foundations can give you light to medium coverage, depending on the formula and the amount you use. Liquid foundations were specifically designed for women with normal to oily skin. Liquid foundation provides a natural look and feel and light to medium coverage of flaws and imperfections.
- Mineral: Mineral foundations provide the most natural and flawless coverage available. Mineral makeup is safe for all skin types and especially beneficial to those with sensitive skin, as they allow the skin to breathe and actually help prevent breakouts. The more you apply, the better the coverage. You can buy them as a loose powder, compact, or even air brushed formula’s are now available. The latter are rather pricey as they’re a new product on the market. Once the hype wears off some, they’ll be lower in price and more widely available.

- Sheer: Sheer foundation formulas give you the lightest coverage and allow your natural skin tone to show, which provides a natural look. Many teens or people with great skin choose to use a sheer foundation.

- Matte: Matte foundations provide flat, even coverage and can work for people with all types of skin.

- Stick: Stick foundations are often 2-in-1 products with a built-in concealer-type product. Stick foundations are convenient to use and apply and are similar to cream foundations in the coverage they give. These do require skillful blending though because of their heavier texture.

- Illuminating: Illuminating foundations were designed to create a natural glow. They often contain crushed pearl or other minerals to give skin a subtle shimmer. I find them useful to use under normal foundations like mineral foundations. They really help illuminate the skin from underneath.

- Primer: Primers, part of the foundation family, are gaining popularity. Often colorless, primer’s are usually applied with a sponge or fingertips. They are used to prepare the skin for foundations or worn alone to even out skin tones, minimize the appearance of large pores, and provide a smoother complexion.

- Tinted moisturizer: Offering the lightest coverage available, tinted moisturizers deliver a sheer, healthy glow to the skin. Like liquid foundations, they work for most skin types. The moisturizing properties can keep the skin from drying out and often provide SPF protection.

When you choose which type of foundation makeup is right for you, your makeup will seem flawless and natural. The trick is to blend, blend, blend. When you apply any foundation, its best to wait a few minutes to let it 'set' on your face before applying more, especially if you're using mineral foundation. Why? Because once they 'set', they look more natural. For a seemless look, don't apply more unless you really need it.
