Fix Lighter Root Color

by Ashley
(Wisconsin)

I have naturally red hair, which is kind of on the lighter side and wanted to go to a dark auburn color. I normally highlight my hair so it started off pretty light, and I used a medium auburn brown, which I felt was fading after about 4 weeks so I tried going to the dark auburn brown. My friend did it for me and missed a few spots, which drove my OCD crazy, so I went back to the store and got a different auburn brown color. My hair became almost a bright red at the roots, which were much lighter than the rest of my head. The color was no longer a pretty auburn color, but very fake looking dark with red tint.

I tried to fix this big mess and purchased "Color Oops" It worked pretty well...except my roots are STILL much lighter than the rest of my head, almost blonde, and the rest of my hair is a natural red color.

I purchased a light auburn brown color the same time I purchased the color oops just in case, but now I'm afraid to use it and I want my roots to match the rest of my head!

Help!

**************

You have unfortunately learned the hard way that not all color is created equal. Lighter roots can sometimes be corrected by using a 10 volume peroxide with your hair color but there aren't any guarantees that this will even out the tones. It might however, be worth a try.

Trying to fix this yourself could turn out to be very challenging and might make things worse. Getting professional help may be your best option.
