Fading Light Brown Hair with Highlights
by Kim Guerra

I have dyed my hair light brown then added highlights its looks great. Problem is the brown has lightened. What do I do when my roots start to show now that its lighter and the streaks are in. I'm worried that if I touch up the roots with the light brown, my roots will be darker than the rest of my hair, help.....:)
Thanks..

I am not sure if you're using a box color or mixing your own professional colors however, I also have highlights in my hair and have to apply my root color once my natural hair starts showing. (My natural color is much darker than the light brown hair color I have now... and I also have to cover the gray!)
Anyhow, you might try doing a strand test underneath where you part your hair, so it won't show. I would try the light brown color you've been using first, then if you think it looks too dark, try a dark blonde color. That is one level up from light brown and might just be the answer. Or you could use your light brown color and use a 30 volume peroxide. Most box colors come with a 20 volume peroxide and the 30 volume might give you enough lift to match the light brown color you presently have.
When I color my roots, I always use the same color I've used all along to lighten my hair. I have naturally dark brown hair and I use a level 8 color with a 20 volume peroxide to make it light brown. Make sense?
