Common Facial Skin Problems
and Solutions

Facial skin problems can occur at any age and affect a wide variety of different people.

Acne, age spots, freckles, large pores, and wrinkles are the most common but there are other facial conditions that can be bothersome.

Sometimes changes in your skin happen suddenly, but other problems can develop over long periods of time.

Good skin care practices can prevent many facial skin problems, and should start at an early age. As you age, good skin care practices helps you to maintain healthy-looking skin. Growing older and sun exposure can take a toll on your skin's appearance.

It's also notable that some skin irregularities are the result of genetics, viruses, or infections. More serious facial skin problems should be treated by a dermatologist, but some flaws can be treated effectively at home.

Birth Marks

Birth marks are areas of pigmented skin that are present at birth or that appear shortly after birth. They vary in color and size and can be classified as either pigmented or vascular. Some types of birth marks are permanent, while others can fade with time.

Most birth marks are harmless, although some may pose skin problems and require treatment. If you feel self conscious about your birth mark, or they’re in a very conspicuous place on your face, you may want to find out about getting them permanently removed. Otherwise, most birthmarks can be camouflaged with simple cover creams like Dermablend Cover Creme.

Moles

Moles are raised, round, usually dark brown spots on your skin that may be present at birth or develop over time. Most moles are harmless, but some may develop into skin cancer. Any mole that has an irregular edge, uneven coloring, or is larger than a pencil eraser should be evaluated by a dermatologist. Most moles are not cancerous, but can be embarrassing, so many people elect to have their skin moles removed.

However, Cindy Crawford is one model that uses her facial mole to her advantage. Facial moles used to be called ‘beauty marks’ and were a sign of high society. Sometimes, women actually added fake moles to their face to become more attractive. If your moles don’t bother you, then let them be! You might start a new trend out of an old style!

Scars

A scar is an area of skin that is a different color or texture from surrounding skin that results after an injury heals. Although most scars fade over time, facial scars may be bothersome and look unattractive. Scars do not require medical treatment, but their presence can be upsetting or frustrating. Scar treatments like Bio Oil are widely available and have worked wonders for many people.

Sun Damage

If you don’t want to have facial skin problems, its best to avoid direct unprotected sun exposure. Long-term exposure to the sun is the single biggest contributor to aging skin. Sun damage contributes to facial discolorations, premature wrinkling, and Melanoma skin cancer.

Once you have sun damage, you can reverse the effects by staying out of the sun and using some type of product that blocks the sun, at least some of the time. Some amount of sun exposure is essential however, to help boost Vitamin D in your body. That’s why its so important to have your sun and your sunblock too!

Freckles

You're most likely to be born with freckles if you have, fair skin, red hair and/or green or blue eyes.

People of any skin type can develop freckles, especially if they spend a lot of time getting a tan. Freckles are directly related to sun damage in which pigment-producing cells called melanocytes, respond by producing an increased amount of the dark pigment melanin. Freckles often subside during periods of less sun exposure, such as winter, but they can persist year round.

There's nothing you can do about your heredity, but you can prevent freckles by taking a few precautions.

  • Wearing a hat and sunglasses while outdoors.

  • Avoiding sun exposure from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m., when the sun is most intense.

  • Applying a sunscreen of at least SPF 15, preferably 30 minutes before going outdoors.

Warts

Facial warts are benign growths that are caused by a harmless virus. Although warts are generally raised, rough, and skin colored, they can manifest in many forms and hues. Warts can appear almost anywhere on the body and can be an unsightly and sometimes painful skin problem. Although warts will usually disappear over time, you may want to remove them with a nitrogen freeze product. With simple wart removal products like Freeze Off, you can safely remove them at home.

Whatever your facial skin problems are, there are many treatments available today, that didn't even seem possible even twenty years ago. Huge advances in science technologies have made it possible to even prevent a wide variety of problems.
