Eliminate Orange Red Colors
I want to color my light reddish orange hair the same color as my medium brown roots. Do I need a filler? How do I get an even color?

To answer this question, I'd need a bit more information from you. However, just for your information, you can counteract red and orange colors with ash or beige color. It all depends on how light your hair actually is (color level), the color base that you used to get your hair light orange/red, and the color base of the ash color you might use.
If the color you used to get your hair light orange red had a yellow base, and you use a blue based ash brown color on top of it, you could end up with green hair.
The best way to tell what color you'll get is to do a strand test and try not to mix bases. Buy the color you want to use and mix (according to manufacturer directions) a small amount of the color with a small amount of the peroxide. Apply it to a small section underneath and allow it to process. You'll know immediately after you rinse the color out if it'll work.
And yes, you may need a filler if you understand how to use them. It all depends on how light your hair actually is now.
Also, if your hair is a really light color, never go as dark as you think you want. Light hair grabs dark color because of the porosity differences. That's exactly why you might need a filler though.
