Dying Black Hair to Blonde

by Angela

I have dyed black hair (as in I was naturally a medium brown and dyed it black). I want to go blonde but I'm scared of ruining my hair. I have very curly hair and don't know the best way to do this. If you could let me know. thanks :)

Also any tips on making curly hair wavy without the heat?

Angela, if your hair is naturally dark anyway, are you sure you'd look good with blonde hair? Many women (including myself once upon a time) think that blonde hair will somehow magically transform their lives or give them more boyfriends. (After all, blonde's have more fun!) The plain truth is that more men prefer brown haired women as partners and blonde hair will not make you happier. (If this is the reason you want to color it blonde...)

If your natural skin tone is better suited for dark hair, blonde hair just won't look right. It sure didn't on me!

Why not opt for a couple of red and blonde highlights instead? This would give you a color contrast without ruining your hair. To get your hair from a black color to a blonde color fast, it would require bleach. It would also have to stay on your hair for a much longer period of time, which could potentially be extremely damaging to your hair.

If you still want blonde hair, you could lift your hair in stages. Color your hair one level up at a time. This would take time however and you might get some funky colors in between. Also you should not mix color bases. For example: Applying a yellow based medium brown color, then applying a blue (ash) based light brown color, can give you green hair.

If you want to know more about highlighting and coloring your hair, please use the links below. This is the easiest option for you and should satisfy your need for blonde hair.

You can make curly hair wavy by simply braiding it (in one large braid) when it's wet and allowing it to try overnight. (It may take longer...) When you take the braid out, your hair should be wavy instead of really curly.
