Dyed Hair and Ocean

I just dyed my hair darker and I'm going to be spending four months in the Caribbean with only a few fresh water showers. Will my hair be ruined?

Wow! Lucky lady! Just thinking about a warm beach sounds great as it's freezing here! This is going to be a bit of a dilemma for you. If your hair was blonde, salt water would be no problem but because your hair is darker, the sun and the salt water will lighten it.
The elements won't ruin/damage your hair sweetie, but they will change the color some. You might think about wearing a bathing cap when you go swimming. I know they're totally square but think about the ladies who swim in the Olympics. They all wear them and the styles have improved a lot.
You might also opt to take a color shampoo, demi permanent color, or color glaze with you that will add color back to your hair. (Use the same dark color that you colored your hair with or at least the same category, which is dark brown I assume.) Use them when you do get to shower with fresh water.
You'll need a good leave in conditioner to help protect your hair and maybe a detangler to help you comb your hair out after you go into the ocean. (If you have long hair.)
If you have long hair, be sure to use a conditioner that's especially formulated for permed or colored treated hair after you shampoo, when you get the chance to do so.
The good news is that after you get back home, you can color your hair again. Just do what you can to take care of it while you're in the Caribbean and remember to have fun! Hope you enjoy your trip!
