18 Tips for Dry Itchy Skin – Skin Remedies for Fluctuating Temps

Dry itchy skin can impose many issues for skin that's already parched, especially during the brutal cold of winter. However, anyone who suffers from the condition can have inflamed skin anytime.

If you have problematic skin, avoid the elements as much as possible. The less exposure you have to extreme weather conditions, the faster you'll be able to resolve issues.

If you live in regions where you get a lot of fluctuating temps, THAT going to be a big hurdle to conquer! That's why it's vital that you take the necessary steps to revitalize your skin as much as humanly possible.

There are many products available that can relieve dry skin. Products that contain pure lanolin will help the most but MANY other natural products can help soothe itchiness too.

Dry Itchy Skin Tips

  • Sometimes dry skin happens when the pH on the skin gets raised. You can neutralize the skin's mantle by spritzing your skin with an apple cider vinegar and water solution mixed 1:1.

  • Even though you may want to scratch your skin, it's simply not a good idea. When you run your nails over skin that's already inflamed, you may make your skin bleed.

  • If you can't break bad habits like scratching, it's best to keep fingernails nice and trim. If you can't control yourself, the shorter your nails, the better.

  • Oatmeal baths with plain WHOLE FAT milk can help rehydrate overly sapped skin. The combination is extremely soothing to itchy skin and help restore skin pH.

  • Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics like polyester. Instead, switch over to 100% cotton fabrics.

  • If you already have dry skin, look for moisturizers with glycerin, oils, or petroleum jelly, which also keep moisture on your skin.

  • During frigid cold temperatures, its also wise to dress in layers. Dry itchy skin can be triggered by excessive sweating or from being overheated. If you get too warm, simply remove one or more layers of your clothes.

  • Ice packs can comfort itchy skin but are better suited for warmer weather. Numbing the area interferes with nerve ending transmission and works temporarily.

  • Ditch your bar soap or any soap that's made with chemicals. Try goats milk soap for conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

  • Skin So Soft by Avon is a great all-around product you can depend on for many skin conditions, including dry itchy skin.

  • Take Benedryl (liquid or capsules) or use Benedryl cream to rub on affected areas.

  • Some laundry detergents can be extremely irritating and cause dry itchy skin. Switch over to Borax instead and reaps immediate benefits.

  • Vitamin E oil works wonders for your skin and is dirt cheap to buy.

  • Make a paste with baking soda and a few drops of water and apply directly to the source of irritation. Wait for it to dry thoroughly so it won't rub off.

  • Some foods help provide more moisture for your skin internally. Flax seeds, cucumbers, leafy green veggies, wheat grass shots (or smoothies), and walnuts are great for depleted skin!

  • Diaper rash ointments like Desitin may just be the fix your skin's been looking for.

  • Some people successfully use a talc-free cornstarch powder, like Johnson's Baby Pure Cornstarch Powder, which also happens to contain vitamin E and Aloe Vera. Alternately, you can try Arrowroot powder, which is all natural.

  • Rosewater, witch hazel, and tea tree oil can be very soothing to sensitive skin.

  • Eating fresh produce that contain more water only makes sense. If eaten regularly, it will help provide more moisture for your entire body.

    Dry itchy skin doesn’t have to become problematic if you consistently take good care of your skin. Taking the necessary steps now can reduce the chances you'll have issues later on.
