Dry Facial Skin Care - Tips for Skin Success!

Dry facial skin can be especially problematic during cold months, when the air is dry. When the air is this dry, your nails, hair, and skin can suffer the consequences. Dry skin chaps, chafes, cracks, and can cause your skin to age at a fast pace. This isn’t good news if you strive to turn back the biological clock. Because of splitting, dry skin can leave your skin more susceptible and prone to bacterial infections.

When you choose products to use, consider that you will need to be sure to pick products especially formulated for dry skin. These products contain specific moisturizing ingredients, which help heal dry, cracking skin. On the good side of things, people with dry skin do not get as many zits as much as do those with oily skin. Environmental factors, such as exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps, can cause dry skin. Dry skin can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin A, systemic illness, overexposure to sunlight, or certain medications.

Although there are no statistics on it, dry skin seems to favor people who were born with fair skin and blonde or red hair. Fair skin is thinner than darker skin, and is more susceptible to environmental hazards. Dry skin can also be genetic. If one or more of your parents has dry skin, your chances of having it too, are far greater.

Tips for Dry Facial Skin

  • Use gentle cleansers to clean your face, or don't use them at all. This is especially useful if you don't wear makeup. Keeping your skin from drying out more is key! Harsh soaps are not good for dry facial skin types.

  • Select moisturizers specifically made for sensitive or dry facial skin. philosophy hope in a jar is one of the best moisturizers on the market for dry, sensitive skin.

  • Pat your skin dry gently and thoroughly after a bath or shower if it's extremely dry or irritated. Never rub it vigorously. You don't want to compromise the integrity of your skin!

  • Avoid all products that have an alcohol base.

  • Choose foundations and makeup that have a creamy base. You can use mineral makeup if your skin is properly hydrated. If not, best to forgo the minerals and use creams. Minerals on dry skin shows flaking much more readily.

  • Take Super Biotin everyday for your hair, skin, and nails. Its a wonder vitamin! Biotin helps to rebuild the integrity of your skin, from the inside out.

  • Drink plenty of water if you're not already, and try to eat healthy, well balanced meals. The healthier you are, the more your skin is bound to reflect it!

  • Dry skin is very aggravating when you want to turn back the biological clock. Stay away from harsh products that have AHA's or salicylic acids in them. (AHA=alpha hydroxy lotions, and glycolic acids are usually found in toners.)

  • Most moisturizers that are good for dry skin, are far to heavy for facial skin care. Be very selective when you choose facial skin lotions.

  • Although Vaseline has been touted by some movie stars as a good moisturizer, don't use it. Vaseline acts as a block! It will retain moisture that's already on your face, but it also blocks moisture from getting into your face. Regardless of what others say, it will dry out your skin over time.

  • Eat high-fiber snacks like raw nuts, raw seeds, fresh fruit or dried fruit like dates, and figs. Consume flaxseed, olive oil, and other oils, to increase your Omega 3 Fatty acids. Eating foods high in omega-3's are particularly important to people with dry skin or acne.

  • Use a thin layer of Coconut Oil under your make-up if you wear it, to moisturize and soften your skin throughout the day. Use can use bath oils and moisturizers every day, but coconut oil helps heal your skin. Apply coconut oil several times a day and at bedtime for maximum benefits.

  • Just like coconut oil, shea butter has many healing properties and is an effective, well known moisturizer. Use plain shea butter for your body and facial shea butter for your face. Shea butter can help you turn back the clock!

  • Try using a Cool Mist Humidifier to help cool and moisten the air around you. Using cortisone cream with a moisturizer is a good idea for dry skin patches on your body, but not a good idea for your face.

  • When you take showers or wash your face, try to finish with a cool rinse. Cool rinses will help further lock moisture into your face by closing your pores.

Dry facial skin is controllable. If you have a sudden onset of dry facial skin, there maybe an underlying medical condition. Get checked out. Otherwise, keep moisturizing and drinking water to maintain hydration from the inside out!
