Q) - Hi Carolyn, I'm in a hair rut and need a suggestion on a new different hair style.
I have long dark brown hair that comes down to about my bra-line. It is naturally curly, medium thickness, but since it's so long, it's starting to look weighed down. (I do wear it straight a lot though also).
I have some layers in it. What would be a good style for me that I could wear either curly or straight? I wouldn't want to cut it any shorter than my shoulders ideally. Thank you!
Professional Hair Care Tips - What a great question! You sound like your hair is about like mine. The only difference is that I've got really thick hair.
Have you checked out my youtube videos yet? I have many different videos about how to cut layers in your own hair. Most people can do these easy cuts all by themselves, after watching my videos a few times. You can find them on my hair tube, right on this site.
Curly hair responds so great to these cuts. Play up your curls if you let it air dry with a little bit of gel or mousse in the ends and then scrunch your hair as it dries. Men really love curly hair too. I get so many compliments when I wear my hair this way, even though I like to wear it straight most of the time too.
I don't know what your facial shape is though so its hard to know whether to recommend bangs too? To get a decent different hair style, take a look at these two pages: facial shape and your haircut or you facial shape.
You can also get some ideas on how to wear your hair from my long hairstyles page.
Blunt cut bobs are really in right now too. You could have a hairdresser give you a shoulder length bob if you wanted. Bobs are great for showing off curls! Maybe get one that's shorter in the back and longer in the front?
You can also get a lot of great ideas by going into any salon and looking through the different hair style books they have on hand. These are free to look through! You can really get some great ideas. If you find a great hairstyle but don't want your hair cut by the salon you're in, ask a hairdresser what the style is called so you can tell your own hairdresser about it.
You can also get some great ideas by doing a Google search. When you are looking for specific keywords, use them like this: medium length hairstyles + curly hair. Using the + sign really helps to narrow your searches.
I sure hope you find something you like. Its just really hard to pick out a different hair style for someone else. I just don't have enough information about you to suggest something more specific. But I've given you a lot of stuff to consider at least. You can also try the demo tool!
