Dark Hair to Blonde Hair

My natural hair colour is blonde. I dyed my hair dark brown a while back and have decided I want to go light again. I got blonde highlights put in but my hair has turned kind of a ginger color now. I can't afford to go back to the salon so what is the best way to get back to my natural color from here? Should I use a home stripping kit, use home bleach/peroxide lightener, or gradually go up in shades of hair dye? I also don't want my hair to end up in terrible condition if it can be avoided!

If all of your hair is a ginger color, you should just use color. If some of your hair is still a dark color, then you will have to remove/strip the dark colors and then lift your hair from there.

After you remove the dark colors, it would be simpler and less damaging to your hair to just color your hair one shade up at a time, until you get the desired blonde color.

Start out with a color that's one or two levels above the shade you get after you remove color. If your hair isn't light enough, try the next level up with a 20, 30, or 40 volume peroxide to get the lift you want. Since you didn't tell me the exact shade of blonde you wanted and/or have naturally, and I don't know what color you'll get after you remove the color, its hard to suggest which level color and peroxide you should use.

After you've finished lifting your hair, you will need to use some serious protein treatments with moisture in your hair, to restore the health of your hair.
