Dark Hair Roots in Blonde Hair

I am 27 years old and I have thick, dark blonde, curly hair. The past 7 months I have noticed very coarse, straw like hair that are black at the roots. The hair is very coarse and is very pliable. What could be some causes of that. I do get my hair highlighted every 4 months and I was using a hair straightener for a while. **************** Your dark root hair has nothing to do with getting your hair lightened or straightened. What you're seeing is your genetics in action. Blonde hair typically starts turning darker around your age. This could also be the start of gray hair, which is very pliable and coarse.
