Dark Brown Hair to Auburn Red

by Savannah
(Alabama)

I have dark brown hair (naturally), and I want to dye my hair an auburn red (like orange-red). Do I need to bleach my hair first before I can dye it this color?

******************

It all depends on the color type and color level of the auburn red color you want to use. If its not too much of a color level difference than your own hair, you might be able to get away with doing the straight color.

The only way to tell for sure is to do a strand test but that means you'll have to go ahead and buy the color you want to use. Mix (according to manufacturer directions) one small part of the color with one small part of the peroxide and apply it to your a small section underneath. Allow it to process according to manufacturer instructions.

If it works, you can safely go ahead and color your hair. If it doesn't work, come back and fill out a new form and give me more specifics about the color level you want and the results and color level of the strand test.
