Q) - My dark brown hair color turned out way too dark.
Is there any way I can lighten it to medium brown?
Professional Hair Care Tips - In case you just colored your hair, get in the shower and wash, wash, wash. Use a cheap but harsh(er) shampoo like Prell if you have it. Or use dish soap. Whatever you have on hand is OK to use. Of course, you don't want to use these products this after your color has faded!
Dark hair molecules are very dense. That means there are a lot of them. It takes them a while to adhere to the hair, so if you just colored it, you can remove a lot of it just by washing it a lot.
If it's been a while since you colored it, you may not have as good a success at fading it but you still should have some success. Here are some more suggestions for you.
1) Using straight hair peroxide in your hair. Do not use regular peroxide! You can buy hair peroxide at Sally's. I would suggest using 20 volume since you only want to lift your hair up one level. Apply it generously on your hair and leave it there for at least 5 - 10 minutes. Place your hair in a cap while it's processing. Then wash and condition as usual. You should notice a color lift and change! If that doesn't work, then...
3) You might also want to buy a light brown to a dark blonde color, which can bring your hair color UP to the medium brown you want. Most box colors (if thats what you're using) come with 20 Volume peroxide in them, which means it can lift your hair UP to 2 levels. That should enable you to change your dark brown hair color to a medium brown color. If you want to continue to color your hair, you should learn more information about coloring your own hair, so you have fewer hair color emergencies.
