Your daily skin care routine is so very important if you want a healthy complexion!

Everyone should have one, which includes both women and men!

Your facial skin is very tender skin and must be treated with respect if you want to avoid premature aging.

Having clear skin might seem far fetched if you are prone to skin problems. Sometimes things like acne or premature wrinkles can get in the way of having beautiful skin.

Most problems however, are temporary and can be cleared up in no time if you have a good daily skin care regimen. Having skin that’s blemish free all the time might not be possible, but having clear skin most of the time is worth the extra effort. You simply look better and have a more positive self image when your skin looks great!

General Daily Skin Care Routine

Cleansing

Cleaning your skin is essential and is the most basic step of any skin care routine. It rids your skin of all bacteria, dirt, and oils. Any of these things can clog pores and cause acne, pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads.

Use liquid or bar cleansers when you wash your face. Your face should be rinsed or washed twice a day; in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to bed. For clear skin, wash your face before you apply makeup! If not, you will be painting a dirty picture! Be sure to remove makeup at night too! Makeup left on your skin all night long can clog pores and cause pimples. If eye makeup is not properly removed and you rub your eyes during sleep, you could wake up with a pink eye infection or get bits of makeup in your eye. Ouch!

Exfoliating

Exfoliating skin removes dead skin cells and leaves your skin clean and fresh. Your skin looks and feels softer and smoother when you deep clean it. If you have oily skin, you should do this once or twice a week. For sensitive or dry skin, once a week is enough to give you clear skin without stripping too many oils.

Methods of exfoliating are facial scrubs or micro-dermabrasion.

Toning

Toning is #1 step you cannot omit if you want clear skin. Toning deep cleans impurities, closes pores, and restores the pH balance to your skin. It also helps keep your skin firm and control the production of sebaceous gland oils. Toning also removes traces of makeup that are left behind after washing your face.

Toners typically contain different percentages of salicylic acids. If you have combination or oily skin, you should use a toner with a stronger percentage salicylic acid. If you have dry or sensitive skin, use toners that have the least amount or that don’t have salicylic acid at all. Normal skin types should use a mild strength salicylic acid in their daily skin care routine.

Note: Toners are toners are toners. There are no differences between a generic brand toner and a name brand toner. If you find a good generic brand that saves you money and that works well for your skin type, use it!

Moisturizing

You must always moisturize your face after you clean it and every day! Moisturizing your skin is essential to keep it nourished, hydrated, and healthy. Use moisturizers that suit your skin type for the best results.

To keep your skin looking great, you need to have a good daily skin care regimen. A healthy complexion begins with clean skin.

Daily Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin

Oily skin is prone to various skin problems and needs to be cared for using products that control oil secretion. Daily skin care is a must have if you want blemish free skin.

Cleanse - Oily skin needs to be washed and cleansed at least twice a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed. If not, your skin can emit and unhealthy shine. Don’t be fooled into thinking that washing your face more often is good for your skin. It can actually accelerate oil secretion and make your skin oilier. Use a good deep cleanser to remove impurities that clog your pores and make you break out.

Exfoliate - Exfoliation is essential for oily skin to remove the build up of dead skin, white heads and blackheads which can lead to acne. Use a mild exfoliating scrub like a mixture of raw oatmeal and honey to exfoliate your face twice a week. Scrub your face using light pressure in circular motions and rinse off with warm water. Give a final rinse of cold water to close enlarged pores.

One facial scrub that works great for oily skin is St.Ives Medicated Apricot Scrub for Oily Skin.

Tone - Toning oily skin on a daily basis is important to control oil secretion and maintain healthy skin. Tone your face after cleansing and exfoliating. Opt for toners that help close your pores like Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner.

If your skin is prone to acne breakouts, apply acne spot treatments to visible zits. Allow them to dry completely before you apply lotion.

Moisturize - Moisturize your face with a water based lotion that has a built in SPF of at least 15. Good products to buy are Olay Complete or any facial moisturizer that's specifically formulated for oily skin.

Facial Mask - Apply a facial mask about once a week, depending on how oily your skin is daily. Masks help restore a natural glow. After you do a mask, your face may break out. That’s because masks pull impurities and bacteria from deep in your pores. Once your skin adapts to them, breakouts should slow down. A good facial mask for oily skin is to mix a tablespoon each of yogurt, lemon, and honey together. Apply it to your face, let it stay for 15 minutes and rinse off. Daily Skin Care Routine for Dry Skin

Dry skin can look scaly and flaky if you don't have a good daily skin care routine in place. For the best results, choose products that are specially formulated for dry skin.

Cleanse - Cleansing your face with a mild facial cleanser or soap once a day is sufficient for dry skin. You don’t want to remove all the oils from your face that help moisturize it. In the morning, you should rinse your face well with plain water. Before bed, cleanse your face with a mild cleanser that’s specially formulated for dry or sensitive skin.

Moisturize - Replenishing moisture is very important for dry skin. Use cream based moisturizers on your face several times during the day to keep your skin hydrated. Dry skin can become tight and uncomfortable if it’s not moisturized enough. Lotions like Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion for dry skin, Philosophy Hope in a Jar, or other face lotions specifically formulated for dry skin should be used.

You should also consider using a night cream if your skin is especially dry. You might also use a cool air humidifier in your home to add extra moisture to the air.

Facial Mask - Facial masks for dry skin should be mild. They should consist of ingredients that hydrate and moisturize your skin and allow oils to remain. Mix one ripe mashed avocado, one ripe mashed banana, a teaspoon of honey, and a tablespoon of yogurt together. Apply this paste on your face, let it dry and wash off with cool water. Keep leftovers in the refrigerator to use later. Check out other facial masks you can make at home!

Exfoliate and Tone - Dry skin should be exfoliated only about once a week. Use mild fruit enzyme facial scrubs to gently remove scaly skin and dead skin cell build up. Toner’s should be very mild or use rose hips oil to hydrate your skin and make it soft.

Daily Skin Care for Normal Skin

t-zone imageMost skin is either normal to oily or normal to dry. Your T-zone can cause skin problems if your skin tends to be oilier.

Be sure to deep clean around your T-zone if you are prone to blackheads or whiteheads around this area. Daily skin care is essential if you want to keep oils from causing ongoing problems.

Cleanse - Clean your face at least twice a day if you are prone to have oily skin. Once a day is enough if your skin tends to be more dry.

Exfoliate - Exfoliate your skin at least once a week with one tablespoon of honey mixed with one tablespoon of finely ground coffee beans. The caffeine in the mixture will wake up your skin and make it smooth and resilient. If you want the convenience, you can purchase facial scrubs very inexpensively.

Toner - Toners with a higher percentage salicylic acid might dry your skin out too much. Opt for toners with milder salicylic solutions so you don't create problems where there aren't any. Tone your face daily after you wash your skin.

Moisturize - If you aren't prone to dry skin, use a water based moisturizer to hydrate your face. If you use a cream based moisturizer and don't really need it, you might break out with zits. The beauty of water based moisturizers is that they can be applied several times a day if you need more hydration. Use moisturizers that are specifically formulated for normal skin.

Daily Skin Care for Men

Daily skin care is as essential for men as it is for women. Many men face the same skin problems that women do and more! Men are typically more athletic and sweat more. The more you sweat, the more you open your pores, and that makes your skin more susceptible to impurities entering into it.

Cleanse - Use a mild facial cleanser at least twice a day to wash your face and rid facial skin of dirt and oils. Clean your skin in the morning and before you go to bed.

Exfoliate - Exfoliate your skin using a homemade facial scrub made by mixing ground walnuts and honey. Use this scrub at least three times a week to remove dead cells and deep clean pores.

Moisturize - Many men forgo moisturizing daily and rely on their sebaceous glands to do the work of moisturizing their skin. However, hydrating daily with a water based moisturizer is essential if you want to keep your skin looking young. Look for facial lotions that are specifically formulated for men.

Also remember to use moisturizing shaving creams, shaving gels and after-shave lotions to keep your skin hydrated. Sunblocks should also be part of your daily skin care if you're going to be out in it.

Daily Skin Care Tips

  • Begin your day by cleaning your skin with a mild facial cleanser. Rinse with warm water.
  • Always pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Do not rub your delicate facial skin with your towel!
  • Since the skin on your face is thinner than the rest of your body, you should always treat your facial skin gently.
  • The skin that covers the bony protrusions on your face is thicker than the skin around your eyes. You can apply firmer pressure to these areas, like the cheek bones, forehead and chin.
  • Use lukewarm or cool water on your skin. Too hot or too cold water can damage your skin or dry it out.
  • Opt for fragrance free soaps to use on your facial skin. When you use products that have heavy fragrances, you can develop an allergy to them.
  • Occasionally holding your face over hot water with a towel over your head to steam your skin. Its a good way to open pores, which helps eliminate dead skin cells, whiteheads, and blackheads. You can also purchase a facial steamer.
  • A facial mask can be used as a part of the daily skin care at home. Prepare a mask that suits your skin type and remember to clean your face before application of any mask. Moisturize your facial skin after removing it.
  • Always remove makeup before going to bed.
  • Use firming eye gels around your eyes to reduce wrinkles.
  • Clean your makeup sponges and brushes on a regular basis, avoid sharing makeup, and do not use makeup that has expired.
  • It is very important that you wear a broad spectrum sunblock every day. You can find many facial lotions that have built in SPF of 15 or greater. Foundation makeup also comes with an SPF. Look for them and use them. The harmful rays of the sun can have many damaging affects on your skin like age spots and wrinkles.
  • Use a makeup mirrors to pinpoint problem areas.
  • Avoid using products that contain harsh chemicals that could be harmful to your skin. Products with natural ingredients should be used instead.
  • When you apply facial lotions, use your ring fingertips around your delicate eyes. Start application at the outer corner of your eyes, move gently around the orbit under your eyes to your nose, up your nose to the top of the eye orbit and over along brow lines back to the outer eye. If you do this the opposite way, you’ll actually encourage wrinkles.
  • Most people find a product they like and stick with them. There’s no shame in that but don’t have blinders on. There are many newer products on the market that have advancements you might miss if you always use the same products without looking around.
  • Your daily skin care routine should start in your twenties.

The most important of all the daily skin care routine tips, is to drink lots of water to hydrate your skin from the inside out and eat healthy foods that encourage clear skin.
