Q) - Oh my gosh! I had a curly perm put in my hair and it's way too tight.
Now the ends are very dry too. Can you help me please? What can I do?
Professional Hair Care Tips - First of all, I am so sorry! Sounds like the perm was way too strong for your hair. Thats almost unforgivable in this day and age. They make many top rate low acid perms that work very well. There is no excuse for someone to give you a perm that dries out your hair that much anymore! And I certainly understand your hair dilemma!
You can loosen the curls by getting in the shower straight away and washing your hair. After a perm, you're supposed to wait a few days so the perm has time to 'take'. If you wash it now, it'll relax it a little.
The second thing I would do is to do a deep conditioning treatment called Cholesterol. It was designed to be used on African American dry hair but works well on other hair types also. I've been using it for years plus it's dirt cheap! Cholesterol will help loosen your curly perm plus moisturize it! You'll be amazed at the great results you get from using it!
For the dry ends, if your hairdresser didn't trim your hair, you'll need to get a light trim. Please explain that you only want the very tips of your hair trimmed. Make sure you trust your hairdresser to do exactly that. (I'd go to a different one than the one who did your perm if possible!) If your hairdresser already trimmed it, and the ends are still dry after you use the Cholesterol, try hask placenta. It's worked miracles on other women's hair and it's pretty cheap to buy also as a little goes a long way!
I'm leaving you with two links (from my site) that give you lots more information!
Another thing that might work well in a too curly perm, is to use hair straightening products like shampoos or creams. There are a lot of them on the market so you'll have a wide variety to choose from. You can also use larger hot rollers to help reset your curl pattern. Plus, wash your hair often using stronger shampoo's like Prell, and use leave in conditioners on it as much as possible when you wash. The shampoo will help pull out the curls and the leave in conditioner will help your dry ends!
