Q) - Oh my gosh! I had a curly perm put in my hair and it's way too tight.
Now the ends are very dry too. Can you help me please? What can I do?
Professional Hair Care Tips - First of all, I am so sorry! Sounds like the perm was way too strong for your hair. Thats almost unforgivable in this day and age. They make many top rate low acid perms that work very well. There is no excuse for someone to give you a perm that dries out your hair that much anymore! And I certainly understand your hair dilemma!
You can loosen the curls by getting in the shower straight away and washing your hair. After a perm, you're supposed to wait a few days so the perm has time to 'take'. If you wash it now, it'll relax it a little.
The second thing I would do is to do a deep conditioning treatment. They are designed to add moisture back to your hair and help relax the hair cuticle. Cholesterol is one of the best relaxing conditioners on the market. They were originally formulated for African American hair but work well on other hair types also. I've been using hair cholesterol for years. It really conditions well, plus it's dirt cheap to buy! Cholesterol will help loosen your curly perm and moisturize it! You'll be amazed at the great results you get!
For your dry ends, if your hairdresser didn't trim your hair, you'll need to get a light trim. If you go back to your hairdresser, explain that you only want the very tips of your hair trimmed. Make sure you trust your hairdresser to do exactly that. If your hairdresser already trimmed it, and the ends are still dry after you use the Cholesterol, try hask placenta. It's a real miracle product!
I'm leaving you with two links (from my site) that give you lots more information!
Another thing that might work well in a curly perm that's too tight, is to use smoothing shampoos and smoothing conditioners. There are a lot of them on the market so you'll have a wide variety to choose from. You can also use hot rollers to help reset your curl pattern. Plus, wash your hair often using harsh shampoo's like Prell, and use leave in conditioners on it as much as possible after you shampoo. Harsh shampoos will help pull out your tight curls and a leave in conditioner will help moisturize your dry ends!
