My Curly Frizzy Hair Has Gotten Worse!

Q) - I have curly frizzy hair and recently moved to an extremely humid, warm climate.

My hair has become absolutely impossible! It's naturally wavy and frizzes out of control. I constantly have a fuzzy "halo" over my head. Do you have any suggestions for products or techniques I can use? Thanks for any help.

Professional Hair Care Tips - In order to cut down on frizzies, you'll need to add weight to your hair. Hair waxes and pomades work really well, along with leave in conditioners. Or use moisturizing conditioners but do NOT rinse them completely out of your hair, which leaves a protective coating on your hair. You want your hair to be squeaky clean after you shampoo but not after you condition. Your hair needs protection from the environment! I have the exact same hair problems you have where I live. Coastal Carolina has a lot of high humidity, especially in the summer months!

Use smoothing shampoos and/or straightening conditioners too. These help a lot. John Frieda's Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme works well without giving you the greasies.

Another good tip is not to shampoo too often. Shampooing too often can contribute to fly away hair. Not shampooing a lot prevents frizzy hair because it allows your hairs natural oils to coat your hair strands. Using ceramic hair appliances can also help lay down your hair cuticle, but don't over use them. You might get better results from hot appliances by using a thermal hair protector before you iron your hair. Any hair product that adds weight to your hair without being overly obtrusive is a good idea.

You might also try organic hair products that don't have base surfactants. Look for 'sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate in the ingredients of your shampoos. If they have it, that's one ingredient that may be drying out your hair and giving you curly frizzy hair! Or try shampoos that are made for permed or color treated hair since they have built in conditioners. They are excellent to use, even if you don't color your hair! Normal shampoos can make your hair really frizzy and dry.

Do a deep conditioning every now and then too. Hair cholesterol is also a great inexpensive product. It was originally formulated for African American hair but I've been using for many years with much success. (Get more about deep conditioning hair treatment.) Also using hot rollers in your hair will help smooth your curl pattern. They won't damage your hair like hot irons can.

Have you ever had a bad salon experience? (Post your own or read others' contributions...)
