Q) - I have curly frizzy hair and recently moved to an extremely humid, warm climate.
My hair has become absolutely impossible! It's naturally wavy and frizzes out of control. I constantly have a fuzzy "halo" over my head. Do you have any suggestions for products or techniques I can use? Thanks for any help.
Professional Hair Care Tips - In order to cut down on frizzies, you'll need to add weight to your hair. Hair waxes and pomades work really well, along with leave in conditioners. Or use regular conditioners but do NOT rinse them out of your hair completely. I have the exact same hair problems you have where I live. Coastal Carolina has a lot of high humidity, especially in the summer months!
Use smoothing shampoos or straight hair shampoos too. These help a lot. John Frieda's Frizz Ease Secret Weapon hair creme works well without giving you the greasies.
Another good tip is not to shampoo too often. That can really add to fly away hair and prevent frizzy hair. Use a hair straightening iron if you can to help lay down your hair cuticle.
You might also try organic conditioners and organic shampoos without base surfactants. Look for ingredients that contain 'sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate in your shampoos. If they have it, that's one ingredient that may be drying out your hair and giving you curly frizzy hair! Or try shampoos that are made for permed or color treated hair since they are conditioning shampoos. (even if you don't color your hair...) Normal shampoos can make your hair really frizzy and dry.
Do a deep conditioning every now and then too. The one I love to use is by Queen Helene and is called Hair Cholesterol. It was originally formulated for African American hair but I've been using for many years with much success. Find out more about deep conditioning hair treatment. Also using hot rollers in your hair will help smooth your curl pattern and are not damaging to your hair as much as curling irons.
