Curls in Stick Straight Hair

by Zoe
(Jacksonville, FL, USA)

I am Chinese and I have stick straight black hair. I really want to be able to curl it fast! (15- 20 min tops)

What would be a good curling iron for this? Also I like somewhat loose curls but not too loose and not too tight.

****************

Getting curls in bone straight hair (especially Asian) isn't easy. Asian hair has three layers, whereas most Caucasian hair only has two. Those three layers make your hair resistant to change.

Before you curl your hair, you should use a maximum hold hair gel or firm holding mousse to give you every advantage!

For looser curls, use 1&1/2" - 2" barrel curling iron. One inch barrels are too small and will make the curls too tight.

Apply gel or mousse to damp hair, then blow dry your hair. Use small sections when you curl your hair and use a medium hold to firm hold hairspray to set them in place.

Do not brush your hair after its all curled and cooled. Make sure the hairspray is completely dry, then use your fingertips to separate curls only. Brushes or picks may pull out the curls.

Depending on how thick your hair is, you should be able to curl your hair in a relatively short time frame, but it'll take some practice!

The key is to use the right hair products that help keep your curly hair in place. Best of luck!
