You can easily learn how to curl eyelashes if you were born with straight or sparse lashes. You’ll want to buy an eyelash curling tool. They are very inexpensive to buy yet work very well. They’re not too hard to use and they can make a big difference in the way your eyes look!
A lash curler is one tool you won’t want to do without, once you get the hang of using one. Mascara is always applied after first brushing lashes, then curling them to avoid lash breakage and makeup smearing, so be aware of that.
Curling the lashes takes only a little time to do, but the effect can be long lasting.
Did you Know?
Hair actually has memory in it, so once your eyelashes are curled, you're lashes will stay curled all day long, as long as you don't wash your face. Water removes the memory.
How to Curl Eyelashes
Ensure that your lashes are clean and dry before you start. You should apply eyelid primers or foundations before you curl lashes. Also apply shadows before you curl the lashes. Curly lashes will only get in the way of shadow tools if you try and apply them afterward. Liners and mascara are applied after you curl them.
1) - Open the curler and place your upper lashes inside its opening. All of the lashes should be in the curler's opening. Hold the curler so that it’s parallel to your lashes.
2) - Move the curler closer to the base of your eyelashes but not over the skin of the eyelid.
3) - Keep the eyes slightly open and slowly close the curler near the base of the lashes. Your eyelashes should fan out evenly across the upper bar of the curler. If at any time you feel pinching, gently readjust the curler.
4) - Hold the closed curler for a slow count of five to ten while you keep your hand and face steady.
5 - Gently and slowly open the curler. If you want more curl, simply repeat the method. Once you’re satisfied with one set of lashes, curl the other side.
So there you have it! Learning how to curl eyelashes isn't hard at all. It just takes a little getting used to!
Tips & Warnings
- Practice. This beauty tool takes a little getting used to.
- Clean any eye makeup off of the curler regularly using rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. You don't want to get pink eye or an eye infection from using one.
- Don't ever jerk your hand away from your head when using a curler. You'll take all your lashes away from your lid. OUCH! Avoid surprises at all costs! I strongly urge that you keep the door locked to the bathroom if you've got small kids running around in the house. Tell them before hand that mom needs a minute!
- Women everywhere swear by heating your curler before you use it. To heat the curler, simply hold a blow dryer, set on medium to high heat before you use it. Always test the curler to make sure it’s not hot to the touch before you place it near your eye. No one wants a burned eyeball!
