How to Consume Less and Save!

When you consume less, you can save a lot of money!

When you use products like they’re going out of style, you waste tremendous amounts of your reserves by buying products you really don’t need.

Most people know a consumer-holic or two!

Perhaps the biggest problem with consuming more, is the amount of trash debris it generates. From an economic stance, it puts a tremendous strain on landfill sites around the world.

Cutting back on the amount of stuff you use every day can be challenging if you're used to using a lot of it. You’ve got to use good old common sense and think outside the box if you want to save money!

How to Consume Less and Save Your Money!

  • Consume less food – There is an Obesity crisis going on world wide because of the junk food industry. Most people could stand to lose a few pounds or more! When you consume less junk food, you lose weight and reduce health risks, like Diabetes II, heart disease, breathing problems, joint problems, high cholesterol, and your risk of cancer. You just feel better when you can move around and not feel like you’re dragging an extra person with you! Healthy foods will fill you up and help you lose weight, plus you won’t be a consumer-holic!

  • Consume less personal hygiene products – This is a subject you really need to think about! Just about every item you buy for personal hygiene comes in a plastic bottle or container. If you take a good look in your bathroom, how many products do you see?

No one wants to go around stinking up a room, but how much stuff do you really need not to? Think about your shampoo for example. If you have longer hair, you don’t need to shampoo your hair everyday! Why? Because you strip natural oils from your hair that protect your hair and give it shine and luster. Also, all shampoo’s instruct you to wash your hair twice. Why? Because the manufacturers want you to use more product! Washing your hair once is sufficient in most cases unless you’ve been crawling around under a house somewhere! Even then, one good shampoo should do it.

Manufacturer’s want you to buy their latest and greatest effort to make you think you need something when you really don’t!

Another good example is body wash. Can you really moisturize your skin in the shower? Water itself moisturizes your skin but something that doesn’t stay on your skin for more than 30 seconds or so, only makes you feel better. Half a product’s buying power comes from the way it smells! If it smells nice, most women (especially) will typically buy it. But do they work? Um, not really!

It's much more money and skin savvy to buy body lotions instead!

  • Consume less makeup – At first glance, this might seem like a terrible idea to consume less makeup. Huh? (I can hardly believe I wrote this!) Can a woman really have too much? Well, yes! I must have about 50 nail polishes in box in my closet, not to mention the amount of eyeshadow’s there are in my makeup bag! Gads!

Here’s the thing though. Most beauty products have a shelf life. They go bad if you keep them too long and can cause infection. Mascara is the worst offender. You don’t want to give yourself a pink eye infection by using the oldest ones. Other items like eyeshadow's lose their lackluster over time, and lipsticks can go rancid. You might want to try a lot of different products but use what you’ve got first. You’ll consume less and you’ll save money! When you run out, there will still be new products on the market to try!

One of the best ways to save money on makeup is to shop at ELF.com. You don't have to give up quality when you buy makeup from them!

  • Consume fewer disposable products – Diapers, razors, trash bags, water bottles, paper products, air filters, batteries, and furniture are among the worst offenders. All of these items can be replaced by reusable, long lasting items!

Americans alone, spend more than $15 billion a year on bottled water, but the same water that’s sold in a bottle comes out of your tap at home! A better idea is to consume less bottled water and buy your own reusable water bottle, fill it up at home and be sure to take it with you!

Diapers are another great offender. It takes more than 200 years of slow, stinky decomposition in a landfill to get rid of them. Why not consume less disposable diapers and use biodegradeable diapers. You could even opt for the cloth diapers that most of the older generations mother’s used for us. They are eco-friendly and won’t harm the environment years from now!

Paper napkins, plates, and towels are another item you can certainly consume less of. Although they're very handy to have around, they're a sign of the spoils in life! Instead, use plates, towels, and napkins you can wash. If you just gotta have them, do some bargain hunting for the items you need.

  • Disposable razors are another item most people don't think twice about. If you want to continue to use disposable razors, think about investing in gadgets that save your razor and extend the life of any type of blade. You can also buy electric razors that are even better for the environment!

  • Use fewer grocery bags – Hello! Plastic grocery bags are easy to replace! Overseas, most stores are charging you to use them! Most stores in the US now have cloth grocery bags you can buy for $1. Maybe if they would hand them out for free, there would be more people using them. Still, a couple of dollars isn’t going to break the bank! Think about it!

  • Consume less gas – Gasoline is a terrible wasteful product and we sure still use too much of the stuff! The biggest way that American’s especially, burn way too much gas, is by running to the store for stuff that didn’t make it into the shopping cart last time you were there. Need some cheese for that salad? Run to the store and get some! Oops, back home and realize you forgot to get something else? Back to the store for more goodies!

The easiest way to consume less gas is to simply make a list and stick with it! If you need something during the week, tough stuff! Put it on next week’s list and make do! Its what our ancestors did for years! Back when they had horse driven buggies, do you really think dinner wouldn’t be made without one item? Nope!

Another way people use way too much gas, is sheer boredom. You get restless so you decide to go out and waste more of the guzzly stuff! With the present oil spill down in the Gulf, and the erratic stock market, gas is something we just can’t afford to waste.

  • Consume less pharmaceutical drugs - Big Pharmaceutical companies basically run the FDA, FTC and CDC. What BP is doing to the Gulf of Mexico with oil, Big Pharma companies are doing to the health of the world population with drugs. It's all about greed!

It's become so incredibly profitable to poison the population with dangerous prescription medications, and the pharmaceutical industry has the financial influence to dominate the actions of government regulators.

Big Pharma's continue to be engaged in price fixing frauds, clinical trial frauds, and fraudulent marketing practices. Yet the U.S. government continues to do business with them and protects them by buying up their dangerous drugs at monopoly prices, even though these companies are essentially corporate felons.

Take one prescription drug, and it causes a chain reaction in your body. You get symptoms that you didn't have before you took the first drug, but now you must take another drug for the symptoms that popped up with the first drug. The second drug causes other symptoms and suddenly, you find yourself taking 5 or 10 prescription medications that cost you a LOT of moola! That's exactly what Big Pharma's want!

Take back your health by getting off of those prescription drugs you don't really need. Consume less of them and you'll be healthier and happier!

  • Consume less energy – When you move into warmer months, why do you still need lights on in the house? Cold months? Why not open your shutters or curtains to let in light? Using that clothes dryera lot? Why not put in a clothes line in your yard? Can you fill up the dishwasher and washing machine all the way, instead of running them when they’re only partly full?

So many of us have gotten used to being consumer-holics, that its hard to change the bad habits we got into years ago when the economy was good. But it's not so good anymore and change must happen.

When you consume less energy and products overall, you get back to basics. Necessities are what founded our great nation and world today. Maybe its time to think about the things you can live without and consume less overall. Get rid of the things you don't need and live a simpler, happier, life!
