Coloring Platinum Blonde Hair
by Ashley
(Wilmington nc)
My hair is bleached white blonde (platinum) and it looks awful. What can I do? I think I may want it auburn or red even or brown color. Anything will look better but I'm scared because my hair is so light that I'm afraid it will turn green, orange, or pink.

Orange and pink hair happens when you are lifting hair, but if you use an ash color, your hair could turn blue or green, as light colored hair tends to grab the base of any color you're using.
Alternately, auburn and red colors will grab onto your hair if you use them. You'd better be very sure about the color if you try one. Once they're in, they will be very hard to remove.
When your hair is as light as it is, its best to color your hair back to a darker color taking baby steps.
For example, try a medium or dark beige blond color mixed with 10 or 20 volume peroxide for a light brown color. If the color takes well, then you can opt for a darker color once all the color has thoroughly rinsed out of your hair.
If you'd like to experiment with some different hair colors before you color your hair, (so you know what they'll look like on you), you can upload your own photos and view yourself with that hair color on
The HairStyler.com. (Its $14.95 for a lifetime membership, which is fantastic!)
If you don't want to spend any money however, you can get some good ideas from the
virtual demo tool on this site.
