Coloring Down to Roots

Whenever I have my hair highlighted, my hairdresser doesn't seem to put the color close enough to the scalp, therefore my roots come through really quickly, sometimes it's quite noticeable after just a couple of weeks. This is becoming very expensive! Is this right or should she be applying right to the scalp?

You should talk to your hairdresser and ask her if there's anyway she could get the color closer to your scalp.
Hair colors and bleach expand when they're activated with heat, so when you apply them near your scalp, leaving a small amount of space is supposed to be OK to do. As the color or bleach mixes with your scalp heat, the color should expand down to the roots. However, if you've been noticing this for a while, your hairdresser needs to know and address the problem.
Having a lot of root showing is not normal after highlights. About 1/8" - 1/4" is about what you'd expect.
On the other side of the coin,
hair grows about 1/4" - 1/2" a month (depending on the person) so maybe its just your hair growing out? That determination will have to be made by you but I hope this helped you some:o)
