Color and Bleach Hair

by Lynda
(Charleston, SC)

What is the correct process to bleach the top and front of my hair a platinum blonde color and color the rest a very dark brown or black. My natural hair color is dark brown, but I have put light brown/blonde hair color on my hair and it is presently very light brown with gray highlights.

Lynda, you will need to be patient because this will be a process.

I would first color your hair the dark brown color you want it to be. It might do you well to condition it well before you color if your hair feels dry or looks frizzy. After you color it a dark brown color, you must wait at least a week before trying to add highlights. Dark hair colors have very dense color molecules and it will take it a few days, if not longer, to fully absorb into your hair. You would also do well not to wash it a lot the first week to allow the color to absorb into your hair as much as possible.

When you do wash your hair, you will notice some hair color going down the drain. This is normal as all the hair color will not absorb into your hair. (Of course you must wash out the color once you apply it and condition it too!)

After your hair has taken the dark brown hair color, then you can safely add highlights. Please view this video on bleaching your hair to see how it's done.

(I hope I interpreted what you said about bleaching the front and top of your hair to mean that you wanted to highlight it.)
