You can choose any type of fruit or vegetable you like, but they should be fibrous and not starchy types!
Unless you already consume large amounts of raw foods, start any cleansing program slowly and gently. Raw fruit and honey are especially good cleansers. Some vegetables also have a strong cleansing action, so these too are best eaten in moderation in the early stages of starting a raw cleansing program.
Raw foods to consume more of are onions, leeks, chives, fenugreek and turnips. Also include raw celery, leafy green veggies, (kale, collards, spinach), mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, and all fruits in the buff.
If you start a raw fruit colon cleansing program too quickly you can send your body into shock. This is because toxins are stored in visceral fat and deep organs such as the liver and kidneys. As the organs are cleared, they will recover but it does take time. That's why it's never a good idea to start out gun-ho!
This might seem like a lot of foods to give up but remember, it's only for a short time. If you want to eliminate the bad stuff, you've got to do it the right way! Raw foods are the best way to remove toxic build up from your body!
The raw foods colon cleansing diet requires you to concentrate on healthy whole foods, including whole grains and legumes, and drinking plenty of fresh water to help flush toxins from your system. Choose foods high in fiber, low in saturated fats, and low in refined sugars (including corn syrup). If sugar or high fructose corn syrup is listed within the first four ingredients, don’t eat it.
Eat plenty of fresh produce which provides your body with living enzymes that help build healthy cells in your body.
Drinking freshly made juices or smoothies provides vital nutrients that you can't get from other foods, without taxing the liver and the digestion system. Add fish to your diet twice per week as a low fat source of protein. When selecting salad ingredients, include dark leafy greens and either make your own vinegar and oil salad dressing or opt for store bought brands that don't include trans fats, sugars, or preservatives.
In a raw cleansing diet, toxins are brought up from your organs to the superficial systems of elimination, where the bowel, lymphatic system, and skin all play crucial roles.
If these systems have not been properly prepared in advance, it can put considerable strain on the organs in the body and trigger what is called a 'healing crisis'.
This occurs when toxic substances are expelled from the body tissues faster than the organs of elimination can remove them, leading to toxicity in the blood and lymph.
Additionally, you may also get a headache or have flu-like symptoms. these should pass quickly if you get some rest and try some deep breathing techniques or meditation to relax your body.
So please use caution when starting a raw cleansing program to help control constipation symptoms!
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO A COLON CLEANSING PROGRAM UNLESS YOU ARE RELATIVELY HEALTHY TO BEGIN WITH OR HAVE DISCUSSED IT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD NEVER ATTEMPT THIS PROGRAM!
The easiest way to help control bowel habits is to drink water like it's going out of style, get plenty of roughage in your diet, and take probiotics if you have sluggish bowels.
*Note – Since I have problems with chronic constipation, I decided to try getting more raw onions in my diet. I started adding them to my sandwiches at lunchtime or including them at dinner. You can add onions to just about any food but they're especially good on cooked green beans or corn for a twist in taste.
After I tried them, I could really notice a big difference in the way I felt. I didn't feel nearly as bloated and it was much easier 'to use the bathroom'. Try might want to try some raw onions too!
Just remember not to start out any colon cleansing program too quickly so you won't get any of the negative side effects!
*Note – Raw onions eaten before bedtime are associated with nightmares and/or very vivid dreams. Be careful not to eat them too close to bedtime so you can get a restful night’s sleep instead!
