How to Get a Clear Complexion
(and Keep It!)
Having a clear complexion
is a powerful tool! When your skin is free of blemishes and discolorations, you just feel better about the way you look! Radiant, glowing skin creates a positive self image every time!
However, when your complexion isn’t quite up to par, you’re likely to feel self-conscious and your self image can suffer. The secret
is to keep your skin looking radiant all year round! Since we all have different skin types
, you can use some general guidelines but then you'll need to modify them to suit your skin’s needs. After all, you know how your skin reacts to different products and environmental hazards better than anyone else.
It may seem unfair, but some people always seem to have beautiful skin. Maybe their secret
lies in their own DNA, which determines skin type and texture long before birth. However, we are all born into this world unscathed and untouched. In fact, most of us are born with flawless skin. Over your lifetime, many things happen that can negatively influence the way your skin looks.
Things that Influence a Clear Complexion
Pollutants and toxins
Stress and anxiety
Daily skin care
Of course, there are many other small things that can influence the way your skin looks but the influences mentioned above are the biggies!
It’s hard to keep all outside sources from affecting clear skin, but if you can curb their effects on your daily life, you will notice a remarkable difference.
How to Get Clear Skin (And Keep It!)
Clean your face thoroughly but don’t scrub it to death! If you clean your complexion too much, the oils are removed which can even dry out oily skin. Over-cleaning can also signal oil glands to produce more oils, which is counter-intuitive.
Your skin also needs moisture just as much as it needs cleansing. There is a happy medium that should be attained between cleansing and moisturizing. For most all skin types, washing your face twice a day is the best rule of thumb; once in the morning and once at night before bed.
Be creatively choosy about which cleansers you use too! Your cleanser should be milder for dry skin types and a bit more robust for oily skin types. Either way, they should remove dirt and leave your face feeling fresh, clean, and dewey. If your face feels tight after cleansing, then your cleanser is leaving residue behind.
Moisturizing should be done twice daily also. Stick to trusted brands you’ve used in the past with success. Oil of Olay is always a name you can trust but the generic brand does quite well too!
When you eat junk foods regularly, your skin shows it. However, its not so much the junk foods that cause acne. Instead, its what you do with your hands after you eat them. If you have a tendency to touch your face a lot, wash your hands after eating greasy or fattening foods so you don’t contaminate your face with excess oils and fats.
Did you know that a raw foods diet can clear up your skin in a very short time? Acne breakouts are often caused by undigested food in the intestines, which causes your skin to erupt. If you have a hard time sticking to a total raw foods diet, changing over to partial raw foods will still help. Reason? Raw foods help sweep the intestines and a cleaner intestinal tract looks great on your skin!
No matter what your skin type, a toner is a must have for a clear complexion. They remove dirt and pathogens that cleansers may leave behind! Used after cleansing, toners restore proper skin pH, plus they help exfoliate your skin.
If you have acne, use spot treatments. If your acne is out of control, use a blemish system like Proactiv. Occasional zits don’t detract as much from a clear complexion. Getting a handle on acne puts you on the road to flawless skin.
Dark patches of skin and liver spots are quite annoying and can make you feel old long before your time. BB creams (stands for Beauty Balm) are some of the best overall complexion products because they accomplish so many things at the same time. They contain minerals, which both treat and cover blemishes of all types. (acne, age spots, dark marks) They also contain ingredients that have anti-inflammatory, anti-wrinkle, and soothing effects. Some creams may even contain hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.
Scars on your complexion can be treated by using products like Scarinex, Talcyn – CI, and BioSkin Repair. You can also help hide them with Dermablend Cover Creme, makeup concealers, or layering foundation makeup.
Your complexion shows your REAL AGE. In other words, your actual age might be 30 but if you look older and have health concerns, your REAL AGE could be 40. However on the other end of the spectrum, if you look younger and have few health concerns, your REAL AGE might be 20!
If you have wrinkles, dark spots, and other skin imperfections, the time to act is now. Your skin is capable of regeneration if the damage isn’t permanent. That means, the sooner you take care of your health and your skin, the better chance you’ll have for a clear complexion.
A a poor diet disrupts your skin and can cause all sorts of problems for a clear complexion.
- Vitamins A, C, and E are vital to a clear complexion because they assist in forming and building UP the deep layers of the skin, which is essential to firm, youthful skin. They also help neutralize free radicals, which is extremely important to healthy skin.
- Vitamin C and E taken together can help reverse the effects of sun damage.
- According to recent research, topical solutions that contain both vitamin A and C may help repair damaged skin.
- No clear complexion regimen would be complete without listing vitamin B. Even slight deficiencies in vitamin B makes your skin look sallow and can cause lesions, cracking, and bleeding.
- Applied topically, vitamin K can help reduce dark circles under eyes.
- Selenium can help reduce free radical damage and the incidence of skin cancer.
Don't go into a panic though. You don't need to run out and buy out the supplement section of the store to have clear skin. You should however, be aware of the amounts of processed foods you consume and figure out a way to get more plant-rich nutrients in your diet. The above tips can help you figure out the areas in which you are deficient and give you clues about which supplements you actually do need to take for a clear complexion.
Dairy products are well known for their ability to screw up a perfectly clear complexion. Milk products, although quite tasty, contain large amounts of proteins that your digestive tract just can’t handle. Limit their consumption, especially if you have an ongoing problem with zits.
Regular skin exfoliation is also essential to younger looking skin. Exfoliation means removing the surface cell build up. There are two types of exfoliation; chemical and manual. Whichever method you choose to use, be sure to deep clean your face using one of these techniques regularly, according to your skin type and skin tolerance.
If your skin tone doesn’t look as good as you’d like it to look, take the necessary steps to correct your skin tone. A clear complexion means that your skin tone is (relatively) even and has few imperfections. No one has perfect skin though so don’t expect more than what you can realistically achieve.
Ever seen someone whose got a sullen face, sallow complexion, and dry skin? This is a sign of severe dehydration, and can be avoided just by drinking enough water. How much do you need? Experts agree. You need 8+ glasses of water a day to sustain a healthy body.
The bottom line is this: A clear complexion is a direct reflection of the amount of effort you put into it. Sure, some women are born with naturally beautiful skin but as they grow older, you’d better believe they have to work at it to keep it. If you get lazy with your skin care regiment no worries. Your skin will help remind you!
