City Water – 6 Carcinogenic Additives and Contaminants that Compromise Health
Having city water sure does come in handy! You turn on your faucet and voila! However, something dark and sinister may be brewing inside your pipes and entering your home as an unwelcome guest. Is there a bigger price you pay (excuding your water bill) for this modern day convenience? I think so!

In the spring, many water utility companies switch their methods of disinfection from chloramine to free chlorine. This process is called chemical burnout – using higher doses of chlorine to clear out the water system. Why?
Because starting about ten years ago, these same utility companies chose to add ammonia to the chlorine to slow down the formation of regulated byproducts. I don’t know about you but years ago, a friend told me to never mix chlorine and ammonia – because it is a lethal combination!
When you combine ammonia and chlorine, you get chloamine – a less reactive disinfectant. That may sound good but sadly, chloramine forms more toxic byproducts that are not yet regulated. The result?
This less reactive form of disinfection forms resistant bacteria and biofilm. Violations are becoming routine and epidemic. Water utility companies have many choices to reduce the formation of byproducts, but adding ammonia is thought to be cheap and easy. What these companies didn’t expect was the fallout – many more cases of Naegleria fowleri (brain-eating amoebae), legionella, and colifom, and e-coli.
If your water turns a nasty color (brown, gray, or black), you will smell high levels of chlorine, which comes from the sludgy biofilm in the pipes. This is because the chlorine no longer works properly and the ammonia only feeds on the bacteria that’s growing. And where does all this nasty sludge go? Directly into your glass of water or the food you’re preparing in your home!
Water is Critical to Good Health
Water helps to flush your kidneys, liver, and bowels. Without it, your body is unable to remove toxins from your body. When waste stays in your body too long, it can reabsorb the toxins into your bloodstream and circulate harmful chemicals to every organ of your body. Water is critical for digestion and removing toxins.
Is Any Water Safe?
rocket fuel component perchlorates which are present in most city water. Bottled water can also be questionable. Deceptive labeling goes on all the time.
Most city water contains arsenic, fluoride, chlorine and a host of other unhealthy chemicals, which spells danger for your long-term health. Here are just a few of the chemicals routinely added to our city water supply:
- Liquified chlorine
- Fluorosilicic acid
- Aluminium sulphate
- Calcium hydroxide
- Sodium silicofluoride
They add aluminum to the water to prevent freezing of the pipes. Aluminum and fluoride paired together can cause Alzheimer's. Guess they missed that memo.
6 Carcinogenic City Water Additives and Contaminants That Compromise Health
Flourine/flouride is one of the most toxic substances known to man - yet it is added to city water and found in almost all brands of toothpaste - even though there is no scientific data to support its effectiveness against tooth decay. Fluoride is also added to bottled water and even baby formula. City water is fluoridated deliberately, even though it’s known to be poisonous, just like arsenic and lead. For this very reason, the addition of flouride has been banned in several countries around the world and some cities in the US since 1990.
Flouride has also been used as a WMD (weapon of mass destruction) – and was used recently in Syria. It was also used in Hitler’s Nazi movement (Auschwitz - to keep the victims complacent and sick because fluoride pushes out all iodine in the body) as a method of controlling the people.
"Repeated doses of infinitesimal amounts of fluoride will in time reduce an individual`s power to resist domination, by slowly poisoning and narcotizing a certain area of the brain, thus making him submissive to the will of those who wish to govern him".
"The real reason behind water fluoridation is not to benefit children’s teeth. If this were the real reason there are many ways in which it could be done that are much easier, cheaper, and far more effective. The real purpose behind water fluoridation is to reduce the resistance of the masses to domination and control and loss of liberty".
"I was told of this entire scheme by a German chemist who was an official of the great IG Farben chemical industries and was also prominent in the Nazi movement at the time. I say this with all the earnestness and sincerity of a scientist who has spent nearly 20 years` research into the chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and pathology of fluorine--any person who drinks artificially fluorinated water for a period of one year or more will never again be the same person mentally or physically." CHARLES E. PERKINS, Chemist, 2 October 1954".
Arsenic, a very toxic heavy metal, is classified by the International Academy for Research on Cancer (IARC) as a Category I carcinogen, which means it is defined as a cancer causing agent. Arsenic occurs naturally in the environment but humans also have a hand in its presence. The EPA set the acceptable standard for arsenic at 10 parts per billion in tap water but several states in the Midwest, New England, and West exceed this standard at times.
Chlorine is added to water to kill bacteria, bacteria, and viruses. This chemical can be inhaled in gas form and absorbed through the skin and therefore presents a danger if you inhale it or bathe in it. So why would you drink it?
Once in the human body, it bonds with other compounds to form Trihalomethanes (THMs). These byproducts trigger the production of free radicals and cause damage to cells. In one research study, chlorine and chloramine was added to lab rats water supply. The rats developed tumors in the liver, kidneys, and intestines. Other studies show that long-term exposure to chlorine by-products can lead to miscarriage or even birth defects. But even after these types of studies are published and warnings are given, the US government continues to provide chlorinated drinking water to the public.
NOTE: Chlorine by-products will evaporate naturally, so let your glass of city water sit out for five minutes before drinking it. Another option is to buy an inexpensive charcoal filter (a freestanding pitcher, a faucet attachment, or a built-in fridge device).
Water utility companies strip out nearly all traces of the heavy metals. However, if you live in a home built before 1975, you probably have pipes that contain lead, which can leach into your water.
Even small amounts of lead can trigger irritability, anemia, and nerve damage. Women trying to conceive should be especially careful as lead poisoning can cause miscarriage and damage the fetus.
Lead can seep into water that's been sitting stagnant in pipes so run your faucet for two minutes to flush it out before you drink it or use it in cooking.
Gnarly bacteria like E. coli can make their way into water from human and animal waste that runs into reservoirs from broken pipes and sewage systems. Just one tiny amount of bacteria can make you sick. The last time you had a 24-hour stomach bug was likely caused by waterborne bacteria. Most people recover quickly, but people with compromised health can be laid up for days or need hospitalization.
Water purifiers nix most bacteria. But if your immune system is compromised, boil your water for five minutes and cool before consumption.
Drugs can be present in city water and bottled water. Every time you pop a pill, traces of it come out in your urine. Unfortunately, your urine can eventually find its way back into tap water. Even with today’s vast expanses in technology, scientists haven't yet figured out how to remove most drug by-products from city water.
Traces of things like aspirin probably aren't as troublesome. However, the presence of prescription drugs may contribute to the growth of antibiotic-resistant illnesses like MRSA. Furthermore, hormones from medications such as birth-control pills or HRT could affect pregnant women and their babies in very negative ways.
Furthermore, some drugs that were never meant to be combined may end up in the water you consume every day. Millions of people have drug allergies. If so, how do you know if the symptoms you've been exhibiting are not due to ingesting small doses of the drugs you're allergic to from your water? Problem is, you don't!
In addition to these toxic carcinogens, city water is likely to contain other undesirable contaminants like toxic metal salts and pesticides.
Although you may have been told that disposing your unused drugs in the garbage instead of down the toilet removes the threat of your water supply being contaminated, it's not true. Water that drains through landfills, known as leach rate, eventually ends up in rivers. Although not all states get their city water supplies from rivers, many still do.
In the US, there are more than 2 million infections and 23, 000 deaths from antibiotic resistant organisms annually. Recently, Olya Keen, Ph.D., of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, presented data at the American Chemical Society about the effects of chlorine in wastewater. Adding chlorine does NOT remove antibiotics. In the lab, Keen found that chlorine can combine with antibiotics, changing its antibacterial activity and making new unfamiliar compounds. It is not yet known how antibiotics might be affected by prolonged exposure to chlorine, but Keen is concerned that this might be another mechanism promoting antibiotic resistance. Keen recommends incinerating antibiotics, rather than dumping them into wastewater.
Will Filtering Help Remove Toxins from City Water?
Yes, it will!
The guy that created the http://www.cyber-nook.com website is an expert and spent a lot of time creating charts and comparisons.
The only things carbon filters can take care of are things in gas form. Gases will escape a glass of water if you let it sit out on the counter for approximately 30 minutes. Most Reverse Osmosis filtering systems come with a carbon post filter.
There is a false belief that distilled water is bad for you because all the minerals are gone. Those minerals are not biologically active to begin with. We could never get enough minerals from water to support life anyway.
Humans get minerals from foods that our body can use and assimilate.
Fact: Organic minerals in city water represent only 1 percent of the total mineral content of the water. One glass of orange juice contains more beneficial minerals than thirty gallons of untreated tap water.

You have a choice.
You can continue to put up with this abomination of the drinking supply OR you can complain to your congressmen and women! Nothing ever changes by sitting back and doing nothing! Mind you, that the government would rather you shut up and drink up!
