Chicken and Dumplings
I've always loved soups and stews for not only their many kinds, but for the instant internal warmth that they bring about to the body. The first time that I experienced true Southern cooking from an older scratch-biscuit maker, the dumplings that she rolled out and cut by hand combined with the boiled chicken to become ambrosia, and my favorite go-to for cold weather comfort.
I sure love it too but have never been able to get the dumplings to come out right. So I've used canned biscuits when I've made it and they taste OK. Problem is when you heat it back up again, the dumplings get hard like a rock.
To improvise, I only use whatever dumplings we can eat and then add more when we have it again. That's the only way I know to keep them from not tasting too great!
