Chase and Citibank raised my rates.

by Ken
(Alabama)

I had the very same thing happen to me also with Citibank and today I get another letter from Chase bank. I just sent my letter to Chase to opt out. With the Citibank I called to opt out . The girl I talked to also kept saying the same things over and over and wouldn't answer any of my questions. Finally I said, your just reading what they want you to say, which she denied. She cited the reason for the rate increase was because of the economy. I asked how will it help the economy when I have to pay more interest.

That's just less I can spend to help the economy. She just kept repeating what she had already said before. I have been a GOOD customer with both Chase and Citi for years. I will not be any more in good times or bad times. I cant understand why more people aren't outraged as I am about this. And why Congress is letting this happen. Well, forget about the congress comment, I do understand, its more money in their pockets. Oh, don't get me started on my local power company raising my BASE rate on my power bill by $50.00 a month. That's $600.00 a year less I can put in the economy.

The public service commission approved it. I have never really payed attention to who runs for that office but I surely will next election.

Gosh Ken! Sounds like you went through pretty much what I went through. I know there have got to be lots more people (who haven't yet found this form), out there. I am hoping to get their comments too. I was like you, outraged!

I also have a Capital One card, that went up too. I found that out at the end of last week. This ought to be illegal in this country! You're right! I was told that legistlation is in books for making this illegal, but it won't be until July of 2010! In the meantime, the banks can keep doing what they want to do!

The supervisor at Chase, blatantly told me that the bottom line was that Chase needed to make more money. So I asked. What, so I can help pay for some CEO's summer home? Good customers are being punished for not doing anything wrong. I am paying my credit cards off as soon as possible, and cutting them up! Royally screw them!
