Brown Color Over Blonde Highlights

My hair is naturally light brown. I always have had blonde highlights put in especially on top. Is there a safe way to dye it chestnut / brown at home without having it turn green or am I just asking for a nightmare?

Just don't use an ash color and your hair should be fine. Chestnut colors have red and gold in them, so maybe a golden (brown) color would be good to use.
Your hair will be slightly lighter in the areas where your hair has been highlighted but the color should blend well with the rest of your hair.
If you're unsure about the color change, do a strand test first. Mix a small amount of the color you choose and apply it to a section of highlighted hair that's hidden underneath where you part your hair. Check your strand test but process according to manufacturer directions.
You'll know pretty quickly if the color you selected will work well for your hair situation.
