First of all, consider that baker’s yeast is not brewers yeast. Baker’s yeast is used specifically for making breads and other baked goods. Brewer's yeast is used to brew beer and bake specific types of bread. Ingesting baker’s yeast is never a good idea since it depletes the body of critical nutrient stores.

Brewers yeast contains an abundance of B vitamins, which is vital to the energy of cells in your body. It is also a rich source of biotin. In addition to B vitamins, brewer's yeast is also a good source of the minerals selenium, copper, tin, chromium, and zinc; an important part of hair health.

In addition to 17 vitamins and 14 minerals, brewers yeast also contains 16 amino acids that are highly 'bioavailable'. (easily assimilated by your body) Brewers yeast should be accompanied by a wholesome nutritionally balanced diet, which helps to insure that hair follicles are properly nourished. Without a diet rich in nutrients, you will not get the complete brewers yeast benefits.

Brewers Yeast Benefits for Hair Health

  • Brewers yeast helps create melanin in hair (that gives hair its color) so it may help prevent gray hair.

  • Brittle hair is caused by many factors including aging, dietary deficiency, and inadequate blood circulation to the scalp. Brewer's yeast contains many B vitamins, which improve blood circulation to the scalp to the overall strength of the hair follicle.

  • Brewers yeast adds a healthy sheen to your hair by providing many essential nutrients. Once you start supplementation, you should notice how luxurious your hair feels and looks and how much your hair shines!

  • Since brewers yeast is an excellent source of biotin, it may help slow down or prevent hair loss. Insufficient amounts of biotin are said to contribute to baldness.

    More Brewers Yeast Benefits

  • It is considered to be a miracle cure for acne. Anyone who suffers from long term acne or spurts of acne breakouts would do well to include brewers yeast in their daily supplementation.

  • There are also brewers yeast benefits for adrenal fatigue, which is described as a montage of signs and symptoms that results when the adrenal glands don't function properly. Most of the time, it is associated with intense or prolonged stress, but it can also result during or after acute or chronic infections, especially respiratory infections.

Adrenal fatigue symptoms are not relieved by sleep. You may seem to feel normal most of the time and may not have any obvious signs of physical illness, however you may suffer from general malaise or have depressive feelings. People experiencing adrenal fatigue often need coffee in the morning to jilt a start to the day or use beverages that contain large amounts of caffeine to complete daily tasks.

  • The best brewers yeast benefit is that it's considered to be a 'whole food', it is quite safe in very large amounts for most people.

One way to get more brewers yeast benefits is by adding it to your favorite raw vegetables and fruits. The yeast tastes buttery so it's the perfect compliment to many dishes and nutritional foods. This recipe is so delicious! It's as easy to make as it is to eat!

Raw Popcorn Using Cauliflower and Brewers Yeast

    Ingredients:

  • Cauliflower
  • Brewers yeast
  • Celtic salt
  • Cayenne pepper

  • Preparation:

Wash the cauliflower and chop into popcorn sized chunks. Add the cauliflower chunks to a ziploc bag and sprinkle enough brewers yeast to completely coat. Season with Celtic sea salt and add cayenne pepper to taste. Shake thoroughly and it's ready to eat! You could also put the ingredients in a dehydrator for about 3-4 hours.

It is also note worthy that nutritional yeast and brewers yeast both have a rich buttery taste. For some people however, brewers yeast has a bitter aftertaste.

You can really add any other spices or seasonings you like. The more brewers yeast you use, the more brewers yeast benefits you'll get!

    Contraindications:

Consult your doctor before taking brewer's yeast if you are prone to yeast infections, have diabetes, or take certain types of MAO inhibitors. Since chromium has been effective in increasing glucose tolerance by decreasing insulin resistance, if you are taking insulin, please consult your physician. Adding brewers yeast to your diet may cause an unsafe drop in blood sugar.

    Supplementation:

Brewer's yeast can be found in the vitamin and supplement aisles of many pharmacies, grocery stores, department stores and vitamin specialty stores. For the best results, purchase the truest form of brewers yeast you can find. Good sources would be from health food stores or natural supplement stores.

    Other considerations:

You can purchase nutritional yeast ('saccharomyces boulardii') or just use brewer's yeast. ('saccharomyces cerevisiae') Both are rich sources of B vitamins, which assists hair growth. However, according to studies at the University of Maryland Medical Center, brewer's yeast showed some promise at effectively treating diabetes and acne, but hair growth was not mentioned. Still, the brewers yeast benefits should be the same as nutritional yeast. In order to make the best decision you can, experiment with both types of yeast to determine which type works best for you.

Even if you adapt your diet to include more sources of protein, B vitamins, and yeast, there is no 'guarantee' that your hair will grow. If you are suffering from hair loss, it may serve you well to include topical Minoxidil or Provillus, in addition to dietary adjustments.

Always consult your physician before using natural remedies, especially for anyone with preexisting conditions or anyone currently taking prescription medications.
