Boost Natural Curls

I'm 14 and have naturally curly hair. Sometime in 2009 (I think) I started straightening my hair with the InStyler. I used heat protector sprays and everything, but never gave it a break. I'd straighten my hair every morning/night for about a year. Now, two years later, I have lost my natural curls. There is a slight wave when I don't straighten, however. I was wondering what I can do to get them back? Would a perm help? Would some new treatment I've never heard of help? Please let me know! Thanks!

A perm would work the fastest but the best advice is just to give it time. The only way to permanently change hair patterns are by using chemicals, which break the bonds in the structure of your hair and then those bonds are reprogrammed to the new pattern.
However, hair does have a mind of its own and its possible (but not probable) that your hair has gotten used to being tugged and pulled on. (with the straightening iron) That's why I advise giving it time.
To help boost your natural curls, try
scrunching your hair to help encourage those curls. You can also braid wet hair at night (loosely or tightly) and allow it to dry. After its dry, take down the braid and your hair will be curly.
Don't use heavy hair products in your hair either. The weight from these products will pull out the curl. Use
curl enhancing shampoos or
volumizing shampoos to help boost curls.
Another possibility is that your curls are hiding because you haven't clarified your hair. If you used a lot of products in your hair and haven't removed them, they can really weigh down your hair. (Its called product build up.) You can buy
clarifying shampoo or simply do a vinegar rinse.
Vinegar Rinse1 part apple cider vinegar
4 parts water
Mix well. Apply to hair after shampooing. Work well throughout your hair. Rinse. Condition as usual. Be sure however, that you're not using heavy conditioners.
Of course, you can always safely curl your hair with
hot rollers, which will also encourage curls.
