Blonde Highlights on Coarse Hair

Hello and thanks in advance for the help.
I have very thick hair (I mean thick strands) - brown-red(ish) colour - and every time I ask hairdresser to do some blonde highlights, its not successful ... final result is never blond ... is there something they don't do properly i.e. shall they use different technique for very thick hair. Your assistance will be hugely appreciated. Thanks, Rachelle

So you're saying that you have coarse hair, which means you have thick strands?
Hair Texture - The Skinny on the Fat If this is the case, sometimes its very hard to get coarse hair to accept color because there are 3 layers in coarse hair. (cuticle, cortex, and medulla) Whatever color you're applying, must penetrate more deeply into the hair shaft, which makes coarse hair resistant to some colors.
However, your hairdressers could pull your hair through a cap and apply bleach to your hair to get it to lift to blonde. It can always be toned at the end of bleaching to give you the blonde shade that you want.
If your hair is a dark hair color (brown/black) and your hairdresser is only using hair color to lift your hair, its probably not enough. Your hair will either need a double process color or bleach to sufficiently lift your hair.
