Blonde Highlights in Medium Brown Hair

by Kristine
(Michigan)

I am simply wondering what the best way to (AT HOME) put some blonde highlights/foils in medium brown hair without having any brassy tones. I have been coloring my mothers hair for 10 years and now she wants highlights but without any brassy tones. I use the powdered bleach 40vol. developer on my hair for the white chunks in my already light blonde hair but am not too sure what is the best method to put the highlights in her hair without having them turn orange first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and like I said, skip the "see a professional" comments because it's just not practical to pay someone $120 every 4 weeks to do something I can do at home with just a little TINY bit of guidance. Thanks :)

Well, bleach is all about the same but use a bleach that has blueing action for the best lift. You do understand that brown hair has to go through an orange stage before it lifts to blonde? Just keep processing the hair and don't remove the bleach during the orange phase. Most of the time, hair lifts quickly during the orange to blonde phase, so pay attention. Once her hair has lifted to the desired blonde stage, remove the bleach immediately.

If its a lighter shade of blonde than you planned on, then use a toner afterward.

If you had just surfed around this site or used the search tool, you'd have found my video(s) for highlighting with bleach a lot sooner:0(

In this video, I use a cap, which is the only way you should apply bleached highlights to your hair. Foils are best for hair color.

Hope this helps!
